Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
Jerry Melton sadly passed away in 2016 after a battle with cancer. He was a racing enthusiast, artist and photographer.
During the 1950s to 1970s Jerry took many racing photos, mostly in Black and White.
Cliff Reuter, editor of etceterini.com has kindly allowed us to share Jerry's wonderful photos here on TRS.

Re: Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
August.1967 The First Canadian Grand Prix. Mosport.
I remember hearing the radio report and reading how well Bruce McLaren had driven in this race in his M5A with a BRM 3 litre V-12 engine # 19 and I think he was leading in the rain until a battery died. I don't remember many photos back then but these Jerry Melton photos certainly cover the event well.
Bruce McLaren leading Dan Gurney and Mike Spence.

(I am not sure of the white towel by Bruce's mouth. Any suggestions about driving in the rain perhaps ?)

August 1967. Mosport.
Chris Amon in his Ferrari 312 # 20.
Just a few months after losing his team mate Lorenzo Bandini, at the Monaco Grand Prix in May 1967.
Jerry Melton photos, thanks to Cliff Reuter.
Plus, do check out Cliff's Reuter's very interesting site.

The other Kiwi driving at Mosport was the soon to be 1967 Formula One World Champion, Denny Hulme, in his Brabham BT24 with a Repco 3 litre V-8 engine # 2. Denny finished 2nd here at Mosport.

Great photos, thanks all, especially Ken for getting the permission, I don't imagine that was easy!

Rhys,
Cliff Reuter has actually been excellent to deal with and very prompt in replying to my requests.
I hope I can continue to keep these wonderful photos interesting to everyone even though they were taken in North America.
I am old fashioned but I enjoyed it when the driver's name and the car number were shown boldly on the car, not like today where you can just see the top of the helmet and the number is barely visible through the sponsorships.

Re: Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
BRM engines were at Mosport in various forms in 1967.
Bruce McLaren had a BRM 3 litre V-12 in his M5A.
Jackie Stewart led the Owen Racing Organization with the BRM P115 with the 3 litre H16 engine # 15.
I think Jerry Melton's photo of Jackie Stewart captures how he felt about the H16 !

Re: Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
Notice that the earlier H16 shot, Mike Spence's car, had the additional (or re-routed?) cooling lines...
You'd be careful getting in and out of that one!
I sure hope this thread lasts a long time...

Other BRM cars at Mosport.
# 16. Mike Spence's Owen Racing Organization BRM P 83 3 litre H 16.
Chris Irwin in the Reg Parnell BRM P 83 3 litre H 16 # 17
David Hobbs drove an independent entry for Bernard White Racing, a BRM P261 with a 2 litre V-8 engine. # 12

I should not make comments about the race cars of today as in 1968, 50 years ago, there were 127 motor sport fatalities !
As noted by journalist Doug Nye.

Re: Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
Jack Brabham was smiling after driving a beautiful race in the rain to win the 1967 Canadian F1 Grand Prix at Mosport.
Driving his own Brabham BT 24 Repco 3 litre V-8 # 1 he finished over a minute ahead of team mate Denny Hulme.
A view that most competitors had of Brabham's BT 24 that day.

Dan Gurney finished 3rd in his own beautiful "Anglo American Racers" Eagle T1G with a Weslake 3 litre V-12 engine. # 10.
A neat photo of Graham Hill, Dan Gurney and Chris Amon as they do battle.
Dan Gurney entering the front straight at Mosport. Note the lack of protection on the barriers !

1967 Team Lotus.
The Team Lotus 49s did not perform as well as expected and the best place was Graham Hill coming in 4th two laps behind Jack Brabham although Jim Clark did record the fastest lap in his Lotus 49 Ford Cosworth DFV. # 3.
Graham Hill drove car # 4.
Lotus Team owner and manager, Colin Chapman.
If you look at Graham's rear Goodyear tyres they are marked McLaren !
Did Bruce know what was going on ?

Totally agree about the name placards. I was equally intrigued when they were used in the GP at Puke, and itwas a great thing. Woner why the concept went.

The great Jim Clark at Mosport. August 1967 in Team Lotus 49 # 3
Note Allan McCall, Jim's NZ mechanic at the L/F wheel area.
Is that Keith Duckworth in the white shirt talking to Jim ?

I do hope there are pics of local cars racing in the USA in this collection...
They had some different classes and sought different solutions in some of those, with local makers also creating some very different cars.

Ray,
Please be patient as I just wanted to finish covering this Mosport event as it brought back memories for me personally.
Jim Clark was a hero to me and many others and I will not be showing any more of him in this Melton collection.
I hope my future inputs will keep it all interesting to you.
