Some photos from back in the day.

Post by Noo Noo »

In 1964 when I was 16 my grandmother gave me her 5 year old Agfa Clack camera. It was a cheap thing but better than nothing and some shots came out ok.

I'll start with a set I took on practice day at Wigram, Jan. 1970.[ATTACH=CONFIG]

You can see why we get nostalgic. Great cars, lots of variety. Not like today's lookalikes

Yes great photos. still they appear out of the woodwork. I am sure that these photos will get a lot of people excited as they provide additional views of cars that still exist and are being restored.

Thanks for sharing them - do you have any more ??

Yep, got some more. It's just a matter of getting our 20 year old neighbour over to scan them and post them up. He says I'm too old to learn how to do it myself.

Actually it's not a problem getting him - I bribe him with packets of chocolate biscuits. Young people are very easy to manipulate lol.

I seem to recall reading that the Paul Fahey Escort still exists and was under restoration. Anyone know anything about that? I'd love to see that one again.

Incidently, in the above photo of Scott Wiseman's E Type, in the background the red and black Impala hardtop hooked onto the front of the blue trailer is Red Dawson's towing rig. Amazing the stuff you remember from years ago.

David,

thought it was the Wiseman E-type, an amazing car in its day, had forgotten just how high that rear spoiler was..

So it's alive and well. Whereabouts in the Country does it live and what circuits does it appear at?

One of my favorite cars from those days, it sparked my interest in Mk 1 Escorts.

I know it has appeared at the Skope Classic at Ruapuna in the hands of Graham Dodd. I'm with you buddy, that was a fabulous little race car.

Graham Dodd lives in Christchurch. Hope he can be persuaded to bring to car north sometime so that we can get to see it in action again.

The Fahey Cologne Capri also exists and is currently being restored in Christchurch. That is another car that will draw in the fans when it hits the track.

Levin Nov.1966

Post by Noo Noo »

I loaded up my 105E with 3 friends, drove from Wellington to Levin for the day, then continued on to Palmy for the stockcars. Got home after midnight. A good days outing for a young bloke.

This was a spectators Mustang in the car park. It was notable because it had a crowd of people around it all day meaning, like me, it was the first time they had seen one up close. Note the chrome around the headlights and rear corners. Only time I've ever seen one like it (not a factory option).

Great pictures David

I worked with Ken Bailey in the 80's and he use to tell me stories of his Coppins/Zephyr adventures, im sure he's still around and here in Tauranga.

Did you happen to get the rego of this Mustang in any other pictures David? I can understand it sure would have been an attraction back then, a brand new Mustang in the car park?

No, I didn't take a more front end shot to get the rego. I had to wait until mid-afternoon before I could even get this one, without people in the way. Of course, I'd have had no trouble taking photos of that LHD Corvair wagon next to it - no one was interested in that (not that I want to start a Ford vs Chev debate lol).

When I was in the Manawatu Mustang Owners Club I was the magazine editor. I put this photo in the mag asking if anyone remembered it but didn't get any response. I said it was maroon and with those distinctive chrome corners (didn't like them myself) I'd have thought it would have been well known. It wasn't as if Mustangs were a commonly seen car.
A couple of years after taking this shot I was walking along Dixon Street in Wellington and came across Graham McRaes red 65/66 fastback parked at the kerb with 4 or 5 people standing looking at it. They were certainly a car that clicked with the public and there was no shortage of people like me who aspired to own one someday.

I took the photo, but I've just noticed he still has the interior rear view mirror!

Thanks David for posting up these pic's, brings back memories for me as a 10yr old(in 1966) kid going to Levin, we never missed a meeting. I think I can even remember the Stang but remember a green Mustang Fastback and Sybil Lupp driving a D Type up to the races
