Re: Monterey Motorsports August 2017.
Another car not in the programme was this Lancia belonging to the Peter Giddings collection.
It was on display only and the attached information will explain more about this magnificent machine and why it was not running.
1954 Lancia D50A(r) #0007

Absolutely awesome thread ken. Keep the pics coming.
Its great to see another 1973 Capri RS2600. I assume this is an original car? There are several very good replicas, particularly in Europe. This is the exact same model as the one raced by Paul Fahey in NZ. If this is an original, it'll be a sister car to the one Fahey had.

Alain de Cadenet did a fascinating documentary a few years ago on the building of the D50 replicas, finishing off with him racing one of them at Goodwood Revival. Did they start the car when you were there Ken or was it static display only?

Re: Monterey Motorsports August 2017.
Steve,
I did not see it started but sadly I was only at Laguna for the one day. I was so tired by the time I got home I wished I had found a way to stay overnight but the family comes first. It is about a 3 hour drive before race traffic one way. I had to stop a few times at the truck stops to get a boost to keep going home. Next year will be different.
Also back to the Capri, I thought by the vin number and the yellow windshield and that it was a J registered car, it would be 1971 year model. Would that be correct ?
p.s. Did Paul's Capri have the Westlake or Cosworth engine in it ?
Ken

I found myself chatting with Bruce Myers, Chad McQueen (that's him looking at the car) and his buddy Sean. Bruce Myers has a fantastic collection and this car was no exception.
Some of the classic street cars parked in the paddock were very nice.
Bruce.

Re: Monterey Motorsports August 2017.
I have seen a replica of one of these many years ago at a Constructors Car Club display in Wellington. It was stunning and one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen.
To see a real one is one of those very special moments in ones life.
Yes Ken.......SLOBBER !

I unfortunately missed seeing Mika Hakkinen take out the McLaren M-23 that Emerson Fittipaldi had driven to win the Formula One Championship in 1974.

Ken,
the mercury comet in one of you posts looks like one of the cars prepared to do the east african safari.

Re: Monterey Motorsports August 2017.
This is Bill Ockerlund's 91 Championship winning Camaro, It is loud and fast and won the last race of the event against some great competition. It has not been restored but is exactly as it left the track in '91.
Re: Monterey Motorsports August 2017.
One for the Datsun Z guys, all quick and beautifully prepared. Ignore the cars on the left for now.

Yes 928,
That would explain the Left Hand Drive and USA stickers. Thanks for pointing that out.
Ken.

No not that I saw John, These are all strictly class legal for "Production" classes.
