First time into Beach Bend Laurence was clear for a go-to-whoa Levin race.
Australian champion Kevin Bartlett and team boss Alec mildren found the product a handy footrest as Goodyears man looked on.
Cockpit air in takes and headrest were comfort-adding mods for Ulf Norinder in the Lola T190

Most spectacular thing about the Kaye Griffiths BRP-Ford was the way in which it shed it's wheels.
Derek Bell was aspurposeful as he looked until engine trouble sidelined him when he was running 2nd.
ecstatic little matich girl had a warm welcome home for dad.

Bartlett's Mildren left with its nose out of joint, while the Stewart car lurked below behind the Goodyear boots.

Flanked by smilers McRae and Goth, Gable took his second spot Philosophically.
McRae happily shared the victors spoils with Goth.

Teretonga gave Derek Williams in the Lola T142 a 6th.
Not so lucky were the Mildren men, Stewart who crashed, and Bartlett who was plagued by clutch problems.
A deflating front tyre in the critical last stages robbed Gable of what seemed a good chance of success. In the circunstances, his second successive second with the McLaren m10A was most creditable.

Winners are grinners Lawrence and Matich
Matich led Mcrae, Allen, Goth, Bartlett, Lawrence, Stewart and the rest into Lukey Corner in the first lap at Surfers.
Neil Allen's tenacity with the McLaren paid off with a resounding Sandown win
Phil Nightingale and Max Rutherford attend to the needs of the Wheatcroft Brabham BT 26 at Teretonga.

Matich was regarded as the one to beat
A pointer to the outcome of the championship was the way in which Lawrence boomed off from pole position to lead Stewart and Bartlett in the yellow Mildre-Waggotts at Levin.
Often one of the quicker quilifiers, Goth had a patchy run in the Surtees TS4 and finished down in the series.
