A massive thank you to you John for all your hard work. You stepped up and took the (unpaid) job of doing so much more than most co-ordinators, as you basically had to generate entries and your work with Barry is the stuff of legends.

It would have defeated many lesser souls and if there is such a thing as karma, you will hopefully benefit.

I hope that those who potentially have cars are inspired to get stuck in, now a platform has been established.

What can I say - it was just so neat to see these cars out there!
Well done to George for starting the ball rolling, John for taking the ball and running with it, and the crews for their dedication in keeping the cars out there on the track.
I managed to grab a few photos on Saturday, hope to post them tonite.

Update on Today-
This morning , it was a great grid- and the weather was very kind all day with no rain spoiling everyones fun.
We had George back after replacing 2 front suspensions- great commitment her to the fans, take a bow George.
Also son George was running the later Mustang in Touring.
Roger Davis was back , but found the gearbox had split leaking oil- car sidelined,.
Later he very kindly let Barry have a rocker stud for the Monaro.
Adrian Dobbe was going for it again,
Graeme Addis was also doing some serious running getting better each time.
Barry was keeping up , but broke a rocker stud.
The Escorts , Toyota, XA Coupe were entertaining the crowd.
Dennis Running was giving it death with Shane and Robert till he withdrew near the end.
Later that day , field was very thin, as Adrian had broken the Viva gearbox, Gordon Burr had the Escort not start with fuel probs,
Addis Charger sat, George went out for a test in the demonstration,just before the race , but had electrical prob.Jon Marslin, Cam Crawford had to leave early. Didnt see Dennis Running there also.
Poor Roy Bingley was having continual problems with his diff hitting the floor.
Robert Jack took the 2nd win for the day, Shane Johnson second with David Sexton third, Steve in the Toyota and Barry.
I salute all the guys who took part, it was a pleasure looking after each and every one of you
And a huge thanks to the Historic racing Club and track management who absolutely gave every assistance necessary to all of us. Our flaggie Malcolm even retrieving Barrys 3 belts from the track for us- dedication.
As coordinator I awarded Adrian Dobbe the Sportsman Award for this class for his sheer dedication and commitment to Sports Sedans.
It was great fun and we will talk about doing it again.

Would wholeheartedly endorse what other have said. Thanks to George for getting this class started, John for moving mountains to get the field assembled and the competitors and their crews for keeping them running as well as they did. 30 year old racing machinery will always need a heap of massaging to get it reliable again.

So many thanks to these people who gave a commitment to getting the Algie Monaro on the track for this video, enjoy the ride in an authentic Sorts Sedan.

Its funny the things you think of Superford, on the Sunday afternoon demo's i took a passenger that won a ride, i pulled out on the track behind George in the Sidchrome Mustang and thought to my self, hey this is the first time in NZ that the only two genuine 69 Boss 302 Mustangs have been on the track at the same time!! felt special for me but probably nothing for anyone else but it did give me a smile, then i thought some more and went hey, after almost 10 years of racing my 69 Boss it has more NZ race history than the Sidchrome does, LOL. Whip-tee-do i know but there you go!!

Have a look in the Historic Muscle Car thread for pics of Dale and PDL rep, I just put some up there.

Here's the Sidchrome Mustang. It is absolutely immaculate. I would like to say that after the unfortunate suspension problem on Friday morning, there was a bit of a crowd hanging around after the car came back to the pits. At one stage Chris Watson asked George what happened etc, and George handled himself very well indeed considering what had just happened. Pleasant, polite, and philosophical, he shrugged it off and said he'll take it home and fix it and come back, and sure enough Sunday morning he had it back almost as good as new. Even the piece of the guard that got torn off was refitted neatly. It was a real shame he had other problems later in the day, but he should be very proud of his efforts to repair the car and bring it back so the masses can see it in all its' glory and appreciate it. To me, this is what classic racing is all about. Well done George

After posting dozens of pics I have always struggled with shrinking them, to get within the 185kb limit, so not satisfied with the quality of these three, I deleted them and tried again using Photoshop instead!

Before we leave this Festival in the memory banks, if anyone has any requests for pics of specific cars running, either post requests on here (with a car number if possible - just SO many Mustangs) or the other Festival thread, and I'll see what I can do, but I really need to knuckle down in the garage but it's really hard work with just one fully operational hand...

Moffats mustang wasn't an actual "Boss Mustang" were as Jimmy's Sidchrome was but besides that what I actually need is a time machine Jac, now wouldn't that be fun!!!LOL Dale M

Overall I think the Historic Sports Sedans were a great success. With cars like these, its about seeing them out in public again, seeing them run again and getting to hear them again. Race results don't matter. And the line-up of genuine cars was very good I thought: Kieran Wills Mazda RX7 V8, Sidchrome Mustang, Ian Algie Alfetta, Barry Algie Monaro, Roger Davis Torana, Grant Brennan Escort V8, Warwick Gray Viva, Graeme Addis Charger, Brad Jones/Bryan Thomson/John Bowe etc Mercedes, etc.

And to think, there are plenty more of these old war horses (Sports Sedans and OSCA) still around and either currently racing elsewhere, or being restored, including: Bob Homewood Escort, Rod Grimwood Escort, Brent Bullivant/Graham Baker/Bob Cullinane Capri V8, Ian Munt Capri V8, Jac Mac MkII Cortina V8, Jac Mac/Rod McElrea MkIV Cortina V8, PDL Mustang I, PDL Mustang II, Paul Fahey RS2600 Capri, Trevor Crowe V8 Starlet #1, Trevor Crowe/Rodger Freeth V8 Starlet #2, Graham Park Marina V8, Don Grindley RX7 Buick V6, John Osborne RX7 V8, Frank Ryan/Avon Hyde etc Capri V8, Jack Nazer Victor V8, Gary Jenkins Victor V8, Spinner Black/Rod Coppins/Bruce Jenner/John Osborne etc Camaro, Grant Brennan RX7 V8 etc. The list goes on!

Anyway, congratulations to John and Rod for a huge effort in making this happen, and especially to George who really got this concept off the ground.

Daydreaming aside, I wish I could have been there to see those beautiful Boss Mustangs in the flesh and indeed the other masterpieces of of our rich motorsport history. I hope more and more of these wonderful machine find their way out of their sheds and back to the tracks. Congratulations to all involved.
