Snow White and the Seven Minis
These people were evidently in a theatre production showing at the time. Great period photos of Minis at Dominion Motors, all on the old style rego plates.

Some nostalgia here for us old Wellingtonians.
Fitzgerald Bros were at 197 Wakefield Steet, just along from the Taranaki Street intersection. That's the harbour in the background. I'm picking this photo was taken from the roof of the Todd Motors building which extended from Wakefield Street (entrance to workshop and petrol pumps) to the art-deco showroom fronting onto Courtney Place.
Next photo is of Bruce Abernethy's yard in Taranaki Street between Martin Square and Haining Street (in the background). I knew this yard well when I was a kid and it never had a fence around it so I'm assuming this one was temporary for the 3 days of scrutineering and checking before the cars were let go.
Haining Street was notorious for it's Chinese opium dens. My father visited one and saw things at first hand and that was in 1971. They were'nt just an urban legend.

This yard was located on the corner of Kent Terrace and Elizabeth Street. Dominion Motors also had a building further along Kent Terrace near the Basin Reserve for their workshop and parts dept. with another building in Courtney Place for the Head Office and showroom. I was walking past here one morning in 1960 after a dentists visit (aged 12) that I saw a Mini for the first time. Went in and checked it out.

Pupils at Eton College watch two of their peers driving midget Rytecraft Scootercars. The cars, designed by J W Shillan, are one horsepower strong, fully licensed and taxed for the road.
