Wow, staggering! These are amazing Nigel. How did you take these? Looks like you were in a helicopter or something.

Thanks Steve - no nothing as flash as a helicopter, they were all taken from the mount base track with a 300mm telephoto lens

Thanks for sharing those pics Nigel. I don't know anything about Boats but the guys who own the dealership where i work race boats, have for years. They are i think the current UIM World GP Hydroplane Champions.

Now that little boat 'Chindit', that is something else. Wouldn't mind a dollar for every race miles she has done.

Spotted this massive early 70's yankee station wagon behind a shed out in the Wild West of Auckland a few years back. It didn't look as though it was going anywhere in a hurray...[img]

Hi Gerard
In your Weekly Wanderings around the Way-Out and Wilder parts of Auckland's Wild West, did you ever notice a large greenish ? GM product permanently parked on the grass verge in Ferry Parade, Herald Island. It had the personalised plate "OBEASE", which seemed very appropriate, (i.e. "obese" on steroids). I had always intended to take a photo of it, before the grass grew too long around it, but it disappeared a couple of years ago.
Stu
Hey Stu I remember that car on Herald Island, I pass there every week

The car was a mid 70's green "low rider" and was a massive four door tank with some quite fancy paintwork, parked outside a not quite so pristine dwelling... I saw it in a photo at the Beach Hop in Whangamata a few years back, but as you say its been absent from the island a year or two now and I didn't snap a photo either.
Heres a couple more Westie Waitakere pictures. The old graffiti covered 30's Ford V8 was scene around the Oratia/Henderson area parked in the same place for many years. I've also included a better pic of that wonderful Oldsmobile land yacht.

Gerard, I think your `30s Ford V8 is a mid - late `30s Dodge, Plymouth, Desoto, etc.
