TAUPO HISTORIC GP 2021 FEATURING THE GREAT HISTORY OF FORD RACING
As I can not be there in person this year I would be most grateful for any comments and photos etc. to be entered into this thread.
May you all have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
With many regrets,

Ken H,
I am not there either, in Auckland .. How did I get that so wrong again. !!!.
Paul B and the Falcon will be there as will Leon Hallet ? in his huge Galaxie, and John Stokes, who has just released his second book on the History of Ford in New Zealand - have read volume one and waiting for volume two to hit my local Library.
John Stokes has gone in his Pale Green Mark 3 Zephyr, same as Ernie's car " yeah nah " or is it " yeah right "like the Tui ads ..
Trust the new President will look after you ..
Cheers from Aotearoa - - home of the America's Cup and " young " Kenny Smith competing in his 50th New Zealand Grand Prix this weekend at that other Race Track ..
Roger
I am sure there will be a lot of " stuff " posted on Facebook and hopefully on here at TRS..

I am taking the Ernie Sprague replica.

The car - had seen a photo of it from a car display a while ago and didn't realise who owned it !
This is John Stokes own photo.
Guess the photos should start soon.

Roger,
It seems a shame that both motoring events are on the same weekend in NZ.
Especially as over here we can have no events at all !
Almost in the words of Fred Dagg " You don't know how lucky you are "
Cheers,
Ken H

A few pit shots.
Unfortunately the Galaxie blew it's engine on Friday so I didn't get to see it on the track. Bummer.

Good to see cars that we haven't seen out before. Great stuff Nigel as always - and on your picture thread.
With Leadfoot cancelled, I really should have made the effort to go to Taupo this year, otherwise the pickings this year will be even thinner than 2020!

Re: TAUPO HISTORIC GP 2021 FEATURING THE GREAT HISTORY OF FORD RACING
When I was at Taupo in January last year Bruce Thompson was peddling a 1973 Falcon XA Coupe # 83, from John McKechnie's stable, around the course.
John and Bruce having fun in the XA Falcon and the Cambridge Monaro.
(KH photo)
On another visit to NZ I had noticed a good looking 1968 Mustang tucked away under the covers.
(KH photo)
That Mustang is a replica of the well known 1968 Team Shelby Trans-Am Mustang 302 number 2.
During that 1968 Trans-Am series it was driven by ; Horst Kwech, Allan Moffatt, Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones and Peter Revson.
That original car is worth a lot of money today, as do hard to find die-cast models, such as shown.
Ford went through 30 engines during the 12 race 1968 season trying to beat the Roger Penske Camaro etc.
I certainly hope Bruce Thompson has better luck with his engine this season !
If Bruce tries as many drivers as Carroll Shelby did in 1968 I might put my name in to be called, especially with my many years of LHD driving experience !
Bruce's description of his car; "
My Mustang was built by Russell Rosales in San Jose, it is a tribute to the #2 Shelby car driven by Dan Gurney and Horst Kwech..
It has a 302, single 4 bbl, 3.90:1 nine inch with Detroit Locker, Lincoln KH front brakes and Willwood's in the rear.
It was street driven in the Sates by Russell and the second owner, Alan Reynolds in Austin Texas.
"The Mustang went really well and I had a ton of fun at Taupo. "
That is what historic racing should be all about.

Thanks, Bruce, for sharing and may your future events go just as well for you.

This is as close as I could get to the F 5000 racing at Taupo..

It looks like perfect weather conditions.
