Historic New Zealand Racing Cars 2

Post by Steve Holmes »

OK folks, I've just been given the green light to write a follow-up to my 2019 book, Historic New Zealand Racing Cars. The sequel will follow a similar pattern, featuring 18 historic race cars that were either built and raced in NZ, built internationally and raced in NZ, or international cars with a strong NZ link. I've chosen a few of the cars to include, but would like your input too. What cars would you like to see featured?

I like all of these suggestions but wonder what you/the publishers would think about 'expanding' the concept of racing cars. For example - what about Garth Hogan's Capri bodied Funny Car or the Pete Lodge Fiat Topolino bodied drag car?

Steve's only got 18 to work with...

That doesn't leave room for all of this stuff.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. This is great. I can only include 18 cars, and I've already chosen some of them, but I'm also interested to know what others would like to see.

You should include the very first Ferrari to win a GP, that ended up in NZ most of its life Steve...

Yes that’s a very famous car that the “Ragging Bull” won the British Grand Prix in 1951 which was I think Ferrari’s first Grand Prix win.

Yep good choice. The car is still around and as well as numerous photos in its various guises.

I have a couple of photos of PDL Mustang 2 in a shed in an unloved state before it was rebuilt if interested if its one of your cars.
