Who What and Where?
Re: Who What and Where?
If Jamie a or anyone for that matter, is interested in viewing some proof shots that were taken 1968 / 1973 type era, there are aprx 18 sheets with up to 20 something picture on each. It would appear that they were taken in Teratonga,Timaru and Ruapuna. Probably easier if I send them in a PDF file so they can be enlarged after being received, many are of sports cars but there are saloon cars with some rally stuff as well. These were found at the Styx Rubbish transfer station in Ch Ch. Let me know how I can best get them viewed on line,it may be best to send them to individual Email addresses.

If you send me your physical mailing address I will copy them to disk and send them, that's to anyone who is interested in trying to identify the cars.

Heres something that some one might remember ,early sixties there was in Auckland a Sunbeam Alpine that had been fitted with a MGA twin Cam engine ,in the time that I first worked on it I think it was owned and raced by a chap who was a chemist in white Swan Road ? Does anyone remember the car and who put the MG engine in it in the beginning

My father was secretary of an Auckland pharmaceutical suppy co in the 50's to 70's so a lot of the local chemists names were familiar around home, but Ian Runnerstrum is the only one I recall as a motor sport competitor and I don't think it was him.

David ,thanks ,I have the name Brian Paddy in my mind ,it would have run the early days of Pukekohe around 65/65 ,I am pretty sure the chap used to advertise his business in the NSCC monthly rag back then,I don't think he was the person who changed the engine in it .but I could be wrong for some reason I'm connecting Peter Hull with it ,not sure ,thats why I thought I would ask on here

Spitz and others

Car 219, slightly obscured behind the officials, is Lionel (?Lou) Spitz. Programme says car is red/black, but not so. I won't name the event, as it occurs to me that punters might like to try to identify Who What or When. Where is obvious!

Does trigger off any more memories? How about 'name the officials'.

Re: Who What and Where?
Thanks ,yes its triggering memories ,but I just got to get the brain to agree with my thoughts ,by the time the Alpine crossed my path in life again around 1975 ,it was red in colour,at that time I took the MG twin Cam engine out of it and returned it to Rootes power for a completely different person ,incidentally one of the young locals in my area brought the motor to put in his Morris Oxford ,don't know if it ever happened,I guess its with the Metal Man now,Stu thanks for that photo ,will browse it more fully when time allows

Re: Who What and Where?
I'll get the ball rolling.
The meeting is the NSCC Rothmans National Motor Race Meeting at Pukekohe on February 26 1966.
As Jim Boyd is lining up in the pit lane it must be a handicap race which would make it Race 18 - the last of the day.
218 is Kevin Aspell's MGB
190 is M. Brown's Morgan 4/4

Not as many as you might think, O.F.
Only one actually.

Red cars from left : O.Cullen Buckler, K.Yeats Orchid, Hughes Lotus 11.
By mid 1960's Bucklers were getting a bit sparse on the staring grids.
