TAUPO HISTORIC GP 2020 18 - 19 JAN 2020
It is that time again for gathering at Taupo for the Historic Race Events next weekend.
If "The good Lord is willing, and the creek doesn't rise" I plan to attend and I'm really looking forward to meeting up with many of you again.
If you see a car approaching on the wrong side (right side ) of the road, that could be me !

Hope to see you soon.
Take care and stay safe and best wishes for all those competing, organizers, photographers, course workers etc. and may the weather be kind for us.

A "bucket list" ride for me at Taupo Jan. 2019. .
A lap in John McKechnie's Cambridge Monaro driven by Australian Master Race Series manager Rowan Harman.
Great sound of an overheating engine (note the centre gauge !) while hanging on with the minimum of seat belt, almost under the dash !. I loved every second of it.

Come to Taupo on Saturday to see who is seated into John's Monaro this year.

Blue and Monaro are on their way, both on a transporter should be there about 11am. I am having my coffee now and then leaving. Want to get some hot laps in with Blue before the crowd arrives...........see you all there.

Man ,it would have been so much easier to have just fitted a screw to secure the park lamp instead of all that tape.....btw , whose tape was that ?

Taped by a concerned spectator, who happened to not have (or give) a screw. (tape by 3M)

Re: TAUPO HISTORIC GP 2020 18 - 19 JAN 2020
Arrived back in Los Olivos, CA, tonight and finally able to get to a computer to belatedly thank all of you who made my visit to Taupo a most enjoyable time once again.
I was pleased that I could coax Spinner Black to come along on the Saturday which was his 79th birthday and he was thrilled to make contact with many he had not seen in over 40 years. To listen in on some of his conversations with the likes of Jim Palmer, Paul Fahey,
Barrie Phillips, Howden Ganley, Alan Boyle, Ray Stone etc. and discussing his old Monaro with John McKechnie was a real treat for me, although all were saddened at hearing of Kerry Grant's passing that morning. As Spinner left Taupo that day he said that was the best birthday gift he could have wished for.
Spinner Black and John McKechnie having Monaro discussions. He was amazed at the restoration John had done to his 69 Monaro.
Paul Fahey and Spinner(Spencer ) Black chiding each other over past experiences.
Spinner enjoyed discussing the Historic Sports Sedans with their owners.
He shown here talking to Adrian Dobbe about his very quick 1969 Vauxhall Viva.
(Someone doing a bit of landscaping in the background !)
We all enjoyed seeing the Monaro in action and the display of John and Bruce Thompson in John's 1973 Falcon XA Coupe was a real treat.

I always enjoy the Taupo track from many areas to view the action.
This is some Historic Sports Sedan & Allcomers at the # 14 corner leading onto the front straight.
Roger Davis in his 1976 Holden Torana SLR 5000 ahead of the incredibly quick and exciting 1939 Chevy Coupe driven by Cam Neil followed by Adrian Dobbe in his Viva.

Re: TAUPO HISTORIC GP 2020 18 - 19 JAN 2020
We had a grid of 25 cars which was a fantastic effort by the guys.
This followed on from MG where we had 29.
About to start our South Island Tour and for both Levels and Teretonga we have 21 on the grid.
We had a great weekend at Taupo. Well organised and looking forward to 2021 where the theme will be Ford.

Two very historic saloons, the Dawson Mustang and the Halliday Escort.
We are very privileged to have these cars on our grid and for the weekend we had 7 historic cars in total joined our grid.

This was the first Mustang I ever saw. The Fleetwood Mustang competing at Pukekohe in 1965. It has been beautifully restored.
