I admire those that have the resources to prepare and race in one class on the Saturday and come back and do the same in a different class on the Sunday.
For example Ken Epsman drove this mean 1976 DeKon Monza # 20 on Saturday in the 1973-1981 FIA,IMSA,GT Group 5A race and on Sunday he drove his 1984 Pontiac Firebird # 53 in the 1981-1991 IMSA GTO/GTU Group 6B race.

Another driver who raced both days was Steve Link in Class 6B in a 1983 Chevrolet Camaro # 29
and in the 1966-1972 Historic Trans-Am Class 3A event in a 1969 Camaro # 72

I forgot to mention Ken Epsman also drove in the Historic Trans-Am race in this 1971 AMC Javelin # 2.
He was a busy man at the Monterey Reunion weekend with practices and qualifying and driving in 6 races over two days.

Mike Joy drove this 1966 Mustang # 89 in the Trans-Am race.

The winning car in both Group 3A 1966-1972 Trans-Am races was this 1970 AMC Javelin driven by Bruce Canepa.

If you are in the San Jose, California area, try to make time to visit the Bruce Canepa Collection and race preparation premises. I have been told it is really a wonderful experience.

"Racing legend Mark Donohue drove this Penske-built AMC Javelin in the Trans Am series in 1970 with co-driver Peter Revson and the team finished second in the series, first place the following year."

You have been busy Ken, Thank you for sharing all the photos, that really is a special event.
I will take you to Canepa's next time I am there, I've been 3 times and always great cars to be seen. The workshop and restoration areas are pure gold.

Thanks Bruce, I look forward to that Canepa visit with you.
It is 2 months since I went to Laguna Seca for one day and it is time for me to stop entering photos from that 1 day.
Imagine if I went for the whole week it would take me a year to enter it all !
Here are some misc. photos from what was a really fun day for me.

Long before the days of spoilers and wind tunnels came the beautifully designed Lotus Eleven, beginning in 1956
Here are two examples of this stunning race car.

It was finally time to leave Laguna Seca so I went back to my new old car, a 2012 Genesis 4.6 litre car that suits an old codger like me just fine. I parked it on the old part of the track and remembered my first visit here in 1987.
On the old course 2019..JPG
1987 GTO First lap.jpg
Taken at about the same spot as the top photo except I am not standing in the middle of the track !
Turn 2 now is a sharp left hander not the long sweeping turn as on the old course that was changed in 1988.

Thanks for coming along for the ride. I think I will go off and enjoy some time in my cruiser " Moby Dick".
( Don't laugh at my big Korean auto as it is ideal for "Gran Pa H" and "Gran Ma H" to cruise easily to Montana, (if it is not snowing !) blow past long lines of semis and not swap lanes on the windy Nevada highways etc., to visit our 1st grandchild.
I can also now park amongst the "big boys," relax, and not bother you with my ramblings for a while.
You are a good bunch and don't complain and I appreciate that.
Cheers, Ken H.

The story to go with my photos is that as I parked my car at the local gym (Yes I do appear there sometimes !) a young Asian university student (Yes his dad must be doing very well ) comes roaring in beside me in his McLaren and while trying to be cool he forgets he is close to the bushes in his LHD machine and proceeds to swing open his door and scratches the McLaren paint ! (If only "Moby" had given the " cool dude" more space !)

Ken H, like Paul B and many others - enjoy your ramblings

With a bit of luck this could be there next years event. I know Mike Ryan goes - this is progress on the Hawaiian Corvette Special Mike is claiming 425 bhp and a weight of 1600 lbs in old money.

P S was in your old home turf - yesterday, well almost !! at Te Poi for the weekend on Rapurapu Road, and went into " Town " Matamata .. to get a battery for a 1990's Landrover - the farm hack, love it .. then our mate's Dad arrived in his ex - Tokyo 1990 Toyota Fire Truck, a double cab with a tray - still has all the clips inside the cab for the guys gear - in really good condition - but I ramble too much.

Cheers Guys

That Genesis would suit you right down to the ground, and we will never complain at seeing pics of an event we couldnt make it to.

Yes Bruce302 - got there once in 1982 for the Ninth Historics - now 37 years later Wow !! ..

The Ticket and holder for 1982 [ posted before ] -my Twenty Dollars worth for three days - just cost a Hundred plus booking fee for one day at the Supercars Pukekohe plus parking of Seventeen Dollars - and that was with " Seniors " and Early booking discount, that a Mate did for me - in the end he couldn't go, so we got another Mate to travel with me..

The NZ V8's grid at Pukekohe ; Holdens and Falcons mainly with a BMW and Nissan in the mix - unsure what was in the BMW 3 series. as didn't get a programme they cost Ten Dollars - would you believe. this was my mates - he gave to the Guy that couldn't get there !!

Unlike this one ;

Ken h or Ken H, your pics are there now posts #108 and #109, cheers Guys.

Must look up a Genesis - don't see them in Aotearoa ??
They do bring in the newer model but think only the 3.6 litre V6 had seen one in Australia back in 2016..
