Presume it is Sir Frank Gardner RIP in the Alan Mann Racing Escort Mk1 1968.

I will have a guess at Thruxton for the circuit.

Big guess, they look like BMW bikes, so I think it must be in Berlin and the bit of track they are on looks like Avus.
Maybe celebrating the World Championship wins of BMW racing bikes?

Jeez...I thought that might have you stumped for more than half an hour. I have been to Avus on a number of occasions and must say that this is a magnificent sculpture...

Rex Ramsay in the LeGrand Formula A at Bay Park, December 1968. The drooping exhaust may belong to Peter Moloney's Cooper Climax...

Is that Des Hammill who later wrote 20-odd "How To..." books on a variety of tuning and engine-building topics, plus a book on Coventry Climax engines, and co-wrote a biography on Cyril Kieft. And a book on the Treaty of Waitangi, just in case we didn't already have enough.

Not to be confused with Denis Hamill from a few years earlier who raced saloons.

A note in the Kieft book says that Des Hammill was author of the Coventry-Climax book

It is Des Hammill the author in the pic
