British Music was not the only British invasion during the 1960s.
At some of the Green Valley Raceway events "Ye Jolly Olde England" was well represented and sometimes not another competitor was in sight !
(An Elva Courier and a Lotus 11 )
Jaguar XK 120
Jaguar XKE of David Dooley. Note even an English car (Austin America) in the parking lot !
A good looking Merlyn Mk 6 sports car.

Lotus 7. Number 47
Sunbeam Tiger # 51
Even had some cross-breeding with the English Jaguar XKSS body and a US Chevrolet Corvette engine driven by Robert Reedy # 90.

I note that there's a road-going Elan in the second-last of those pics, too...
Not to mention a Peugeot 404.
If you want to go spotting the 'cars you didn't expect to see there' you need to go to this thread:

Staggering stuff in there, really.

Before moving on to Mosport and Mid Ohio here are some cars competing at Green Valley Raceway, Texas. 1966.
A Shelby Cobra 427.
Plymouth Barracuda.
From the endurance race and it did complete the 6 Hr.race in 16th place 39 laps behind the winning Mustang.
A Saab 93 GT # 98 with the driving team of Frank Moakley and Kermit Turley.
" The GT had twin carburetors and the two-stroke engine had been tuned to develop 50 hp (37 kW). An optional tuning kit was available to upgrade it to a GT 750R with the engine power boosted to 55 hp (41 kW). The engine gave most power at high revs, 3400 to 5000 rpm. The gearbox had three gears. In order to overcome the problems of overrun for the two-stroke engine, a freewheel device was fitted."

Re: Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
August 1967. Mosport, Canada.
One of the preliminary races before the Formula One race was a Can Am type sports car race.
Note the experiment with wings well before the Formula One cars had them.
A Canadian Astur Mk1 sports car.
Another Canadian sports car. A Chinook Mk 2. # 5 ( Very similar looking to a Jim Hall Chaparral.)
A McLaren Mk 3 # 98 driven by Canadian George Eaton who would go on to drive in Can Am and Formula One for BRM.
George was a member of the family that owned Eaton's department stores across Canada for over 100 years but had to declare bankruptcy in 1999. George was a good but underrated driver.
(Note the early wing arrangements on these cars. )
The same weekend at the same track.
1967 Formula One cars and not a wing of any type !
Jim Hall's innovations in sports cars led the way.

Some more Canadian sports cars at Mosport. August 1967.
Another Canadian driver who went on to drive Formula 1 for Lotus and BRM was Bill Brack seen here competing in his Lotus 47 # 85.
A car that must have been a real brute was this "Dailu" Chevy Mk 5 # 74 driven by Don Horner.
The MKV
"The final iteration of the Dailu Racing Specials was the MKV, and completed in 1965. It was built for a GM dealer in Montreal, Duval Chevrolet. Greenblatt reverted back to the traditional construction of some of the prior MK vehicles, using a ladder frame, and a suspension and brake setup similar to that of the MKIII. The engine and transmission were both GM units, with horsepower peaking around 380. It was given a lightweight body similar in design to a Corvette String Ray. The weight of the body was around 150 pounds with the overall weight of the vehicle a mere 1800 pounds. This meant it appeared like a Corvette but packed the performance of a highly tuned racing machine.
The car was used in competition with some success. The whereabouts of the car are currently unknown." (2008) (Concept Carz comments )

Another Canadian sports car was the Hayman SR 3
Roy Hayman checking out his creation at Mosport.

Re: Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
One reason for the earlier emphasis on wings on sporty cars was the fact that their bodywork tended to make them aviate.
Hence there was an immediate need to overcome this.
When did Brabham run the wings on the side of the Brabham at Spa? Was that 1967 or 1968?

Ray,
I think Bruce McLaren regretted that he did not further develop this F1 wing concept seen here being tested at Riverside in early 1966.
He would have caused quite a stir for sure.

There's not enough surface area there for that to be a serious attempt at a wing...
I wonder what it was really about?

quote as per Wikipedia.
"Herd's knowledge of aerodynamics and Bruce McLaren's experience with Ford's sports car racing programme combined to spur the team into experimenting with aerodynamic bodywork. The M2A was fitted with a rear wing that produced downforce – downwards pressure on the car and tyres which allows faster cornering – and reduced lap times by three seconds at a test at Zandvoort circuit in November 1965, two and a half years before the Brabham and Ferrari teams eventually debuted wings in a Grand Prix.[15][16][17] The team intended to use the wing on the M2B, but the engine problems that occurred prevented this.[16]"

Re: Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
Thanks Roger,
It is getting into the busy season here. Memorial Day weekend and most of the is taken up with racing. Monaco, then Indy 500.
Next weekend I am off to Sonoma for the Historic meeting. It is hard to mow the lawns, paint the house and keep everybody happy.
So I am lagging on doing inputs at this site. I did go on a MinI Valley Rally" today which was quite an experience being at the back in the "smoking" section !
Anyway back to Mosport. August 1967.
A GM Chevrolet Monza Concept vehicle was on display.
Porsche 906 # 58
Porsche 906 Roadster # 247.
Who can point out what the tail light on the right belongs to ?

Agree Ray, Plymouth Valiant the US use of the model name .. or could be a ' Cuda, the early model..
Re: Jerry Melton's photos taken in North America during the 1950s to the 1970s.
Definitely a Barracuda...
I checked. The strip forward from the top of the light isn't there on Valiants, and the deck's higher on the Valiant too.

Mosport. Aug.27 1967.
German born and emigrated to Canada as a young man was driver John Cordts in a McLaren Mk 3 # 57.
John was also another Canadian who drove in Formula 1 as a driver in the 1969 Canadian Grand Prix of a Brabham.
