Ardmore program 1958 NZ Grand Prix meeting
Not Dunedin but some of the cars would have come South during the "Summer of Racing " that was NZ in the 1950's/60's
These are photos by John Sheppard who drove a rather quick Morris Minor in the Saloon Car Race.
Pictures are small but some good shots.

The Dunedin thread - other photos of various events.
Rather than start another thread, as I have been taking a few more photos of Chelsea Walsh Hill Climb, Greerton Vintage Fayre Car Show and Caffeine and Classics at Smales Farm, Auckland - yes a bit of travelling, have decided to put recent photos here;
Will ask Steve to rename the thread - actual name to be decided.
a couple to start with ; make that a few !!

Dunedin 1958
Have posted some photos from the Cliff Bennett collection by Jim Bennett, on my " Austin Healey " thread.
Graham Woods had the entry lists for the Main Race Single Seaters and Sports Cars, and the Le Mans start Sports Car Race.
Other photos show the Tojeiro Jaguar of Frank Cantwell and the RA Vanguard as well as the Lister Jaguar and others.
here are the entry lists - thanks Graham Woods.
R J [ Bob ] Blackburn's Mistral, Bob owned Weltex at the time and was making the Mistral bodies - have an advert of that - Later Emslie and Flockton in Dunedin had the licence to manufacture the bodies.

That was the day Garth Souness was sitting in the car waiting on the grid with the door open in shorts and jandels ...

Matamata Street races 1964 -65
The Street Races were held in 1964 and 1965 and as Alan Boyle mentioned the track passed 6 Churches and then the Lord intervened. [ Races were on the Saturday ].
Races results from Graham Woods
1964
1965
1964 Programme from Keiron Guiness who was originally a Matamata Boy.
Entry list from Bob Homewood - seem to be 1965 races
Map of the course and some photos to follow

Matamata Street races 1964 -65 some photos - Alan Boyle
These Alan believes are 1964 and he was sitting inside the Car dealers on the corner, quote " having a few beverages "
Names of drivers may not be totally correct
Coupe P Clarkson #54 Zephyr J Armstrong #144
Plymouth Coupe G C Parke !
Coupes on a corner
Sports Cars Daimler W Bern, Healey R Smith, The TR unsure as a couple were racing according to the results.
Believed to be Kerry Grant in the Spitfire - the only Sports Car to run Top up. Have seen another photo of the Spitfire at that meeting
Thanks to Alan Boyle and his post on the Facebook page ; Old New Zealand Motor Racing ".
https://www.facebook.com/groups/429302310781897/permalink/535181070194020/?comment_id=535328400179287
included in the comments is some footage of Hamilton Car Clubs " Ngutunui Hill Climb 2009 " which I understand is the same road [ Pekanui Road ] that the Bardahl series used in 1979 the course is 8.7 km long - drove the road a few months ago but at a very sedate pace.

Graeme Park in his Plymouth Coupe,,,will be racing his Marina Coupe Taupo 20, 21.
Hes been in it for the long haul.
Also would P Clarkson #54 Coupe be a misspell and be Bob Clarkson, long time Hot Rodder, Stock Car man ?

Street and other circuits in New Zealand
Just had a look at " The Motorhood " a website from the publishers of NZ Classic Car, about the history of track in New Zealand.
It is worth a read, and I am sure some corrections will be prof-erred ;
http://www.themotorhood.com/themotorhood/2014/11/27/racing-through-the-historic-tracks-in-new-zealand
a quiet afternoon and " Her Indoors " is outdoors at the hairdressers so at someone else's place " indoors ".

Re: Dunedin Street Races - revival meeting January 1984
Yes that's a good precis. My "proferring" the photo of the large grid has "Ardmore" above it and then goes on t talk about Ohakea, which is where the photo comes from? The caption underneath says Ohakea, just may lead to future discussion.
Re: Dunedin Street Races - revival meeting January 1984
Can I see a 141 through the smoke ? Could that be Rod Coppins ?

Rod was there with his Chevrolet in 1964. He finished fourth in the Saloon Car Scratch Race behind Segedin, Dawson and Hogan. John Riley was fifth in a Ford so that could be him behind Coppins.
