This lovely lady would never be vindictive and destroy my treasures!
Standing beside the Type41 (Royale) just to show its size. It always amazes me that Ettore was so critical of Bentleys, calling them 'lorries', when many Bugattis weren't exactly small lightweights - though granted, Ettore's lorries weren't built for racing!

Incidentally, the café on site (Dragos) is more of a restaurant, than café, so don't expect to be able to get a sandwich and a cuppa. Having said that, our pasta dishes were the same price as the Marriott's chicken or turkey sandwiches, at $17 each before tax. Seen in the background of this first pic. It also seem to be popular with non-museum visitors and at lunchtime, was just about full.

I am pretty sure that any visit to this Hollywood museum is going to be worthwhile, even if some of the exhibits do change. If you Google a search of the Petersen vault, you'll note that when one reporter visited and was allowed to take photographs, that many of the cars shown in the vault then, are now on display.
I believe that some of the exhibits we saw are private collections on loan - which is a great way to keep refreshing any museum.
That was the last batch from this museum and also from this trip. Next year's trip is looking decidedly bleak in terms of overseas car stuff... For 2019, we may well be in Europe again and I'll just have to see what I can fit in, but rest assured, I'll be looking for something.

Back to recent (or fairly recent) local pics. Legends meeting back in March. I have only just got around to sorting them.

Chris Watson's McLaren Gardos
Kerry McIntosh, Begg FM2
James Watson, Swift DB4. Very impressed with the way he has got to grips with this car in terms of set up and also the way he drives.
Trying to find the manufacturing source for some of the Formula First cars is proving tricky. The names may be in the programme, but sometimes, even the internet doesn't bring up the information I need to be able to file them properly.
That also raises issues as to several makes and models? Where for example do you place Brabhams or McLarens? I have them down as UK. Cars such as Bucklers can be tricky and Cobra Replicas are a real nightmare. An Almac Cobra is easy enough, but of all the Cobra replicas there are around, guessing who actually produced each one isn't so easy.
A nose-less Symon - driven by Chris Symon, so I am presuming this is NZ made!
Billy Fraser, Sabre Sabre... (Is that a double edged sword?) Most of the Formula First cars don't have a manufacturing date in the programme.
Gary Rush - Swift DB4

More from the March Legends meeting. I'll get back to scanning from the archives once I am up to date with the filing of the current stuff.

MG (and Rover) - might not be as dominant in terms of numbers as they once were but thankfully, there are still those willing to use the cars rather than cherish them as trailer queens as values rise.
The Rover Tomcat is no longer able to be brought into NZ as a road car as it doesn't now meet NZ's crumple zone regulations. Strange that NZ with no car manufacturing industry feels that it has a better grasp on car safety than the manufacturers. No TVR's allowed in either. Shame.
Pity they don't apply the same rigid examination to the driving standards... Here endeth today's sermon.
[CENTER]
Unlike most of the other MGB V8s racing today, this is a genuine factory model, previously run by Harley Norager and now going very well after an extensive engine rebuild, with Dave Mallin at the tiller.
The Forsyth MG formerly run in the GT series, is gradually being brought back to a less radical look. The rear wing has gone and Todd is now working on getting new rear guards manufactured. Critics may object to the lack of purity and the time taken to bring it into line, but once again, the ERC Series has adopted the approach that we do need cars on track and as Todd is a more than competent driver, far better to have it on track than parked in a garage.

The drifters or others at play on the small club track whilst a race meeting is on the national track, was always in the original plans for Hampton Downs. I hope no-one ever forgets that it was the late Geoff Manning, Chris Watson and Tony Roberts who did the groundwork of this whole complex and that Tony Quinn's contribution has mainly been to get the works finished.
I have no idea what the car is! (A bit of Googling and a pic shows it to be a NIssan Silvia...)
The modern sports cars are really sports racing cars and without looking at the programme, I'm afraid I haven't really worked out which is which! This is a Juno.

Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection
Wife had a Rover 214 Cabriolet and it knocked spots off the very early Toyota MR2 (1500cc, not 1600TC) on all counts, especially economy. I considered a Tomcat at one stage, but ended up with a Rover 420Gsi which worked extremely well. Both Rovers were totally trouble free and rust free, which is more than could be said for the MR2, which was starting to show signs of rust.
Her number plate was originally purchased for the MR2 and has nothing to do with either of us having a sex change!

Back to track cars...

Paul Halford's collection has some very rare Italian machinery, but also includes a couple of Porsches.
One of the sport's most hard working supporters, Wendy Metcalfe. When not driving, or getting involved in the ever growing group of 'Women in Motorsport', will be around either in Race Control or as a CRO.
This one is a Reynard
John Hudson, not racing his BMW 2002 for a change. One of the drivers now in ERC who was racing before I arrived in NZ. John also gets a regular mention in one of the UK's car magazines, helping out the Brit journalist with his BMW and is also a regular helper, preparing cars for Goodwood.
John also purchased my reconditioned, but unbuilt 998cc Mini engine to clear a little bit of shelf space in my garage.

Not quite what it seems and this one has slipped through the ERC's normal criteria, so strictly speaking shouldn't be running. Once again, probably better out on track than limited to Leadfoot and maybe just Targa events.
Bryce Platt is another driver with a long saloon racing history in NZ and has also often driven the Rally NZ 0 or 00 car.
Jason Nicholl has purchased the ex-Brian Yates Porsche to add to his collection of Porsche race cars.
Nemesis. I'll have to try and commit these cars to memory otherwise I'm destined to need the programme every time.

Spent half the afternoon trying to sort out scanner issues, whilst 'revisiting' Goodwood 2000, but in the meantime, just a few more from Legends.

Friday was really wet - paddock shots mainly Friday.

Saturday, we only managed half a day (travelling with my wife, I had to respect that she shouldn't suffer, hence my solo trip in 2016) and the wind was biting!
