John - the #1511 post was at scrutineering for Ardmore, January 1989. A trick of the light with the red wing!

Rhys - I'm afraid that Donington has effectively been ruined with the fencing from a paying spectator/photographer's perspective - and I'm a bit rusty on what spectator access is these days, but I'd suggest that corner 1 (Redgate) from the outside gives a view of the start/finish line and the sweep through Craner Curves.

From there, you can walk clockwise round the circuit to Coppice. When I last went, the weather was dreadful, but there was a track crossing around the start line area and I managed to poke a camera through a gap in the fencing at the last corner, as there was no-one else around vying for a spot!

You could also get a reasonable view of the Craner Curves from the inside. I think there has been a fair bit of tree felling in recent years, so there might be more good viewing from the inside around Starkey's Bridge.

What date is your Prescott as we may well try for that, though it is a fair distance away for us?

We may also revisit the Coventry Transport Museum, midweek between May 18th and June 1st and would welcome a peek behind the scenes in the storage area if that can be arranged!

Someone asked at an MGCC dinner/club meeting last night what I did with so many pics - knowing that family wasn't at all interested, so I told them about 'The Roaring Season', so we might get a few more viewers/contributors.

Ray- Thanks for the close up.
I also thought Ardmore owing to the building- but didnt want to guess the date
http://www.theroaringseason.com/showthread.php?1601-Ardmore-Reunion-1989......#2 for Ross Cammicks pix.
That would mean that this is in fact the Zephyr Corvette Replica that Rod gave the specifications to John Provo to be built.
Rod had 4 wins and a second here.
Car has just changed hands and the new owner wants to bring it out to run
Love the way that leather straps used to hold the bonnet down on the Zephyr were also used to hold the bonnet and boot down on the Monaro

John, when I asked about those straps "back in the day" I was told to get dog collars from the local council! At that time each year the dog registration was done by changing the collar which had a brass tag rivetted on. Of course the local Town Clerk (called Dad) told me they had a real problem getting rid of the things, would I take hundreds and save them the problem. 2 was what I accepted.
Ray, I stopped work t the museum when it became obvious to me that the free entry meant that it was a haven for mums with their kids when the weather was less than pleasant outside. Each afternoon up to 30 of them would come in and sit down while their darlings played with the playground stuff and they spent time texting their friends. I didn't sign on to be a creche attendant. The non shown stuff is now stored off site, while the manager promised to take me down he never did.

My wife keeps grabbing the Monaro straps and using them on the Border Collies.......something about good strong leather.
I must have made about 50 metres which walked out the door.

Probably July 19th 1980 - and the "For Sale" sign on the front might have put one or two off!

There are often people in these pics that give clues. The tall guy to the left, looking away, is Dave Watson, who acted as one of the club stewards, so that confirms it as an NSCC meeting at Cadwell.

Dave was the manager of the local Hertz office and I worked part time for him on Saturday mornings. When Hertz shifted from Ford Fiestas to Renault R4's, Dave refused to drive them and it was he who christened them 'Clockwork Frogs', a name that has stuck with me ever since. It was in the Hertz garage that we used to 'race' the Fiesta's and we learned to handbrake turn...
* Pic wrongly dated as 1980, as it was in fact June 1977.

Post #1512 - I was right. It was in the programme as an Iso Grifo - but agree, they seem to be almost identical.

In a way you are both correct as Giotto Bizzarrini designed both of these beautiful machines in the 1960s

To paraphrase an old advertising campaign, would it be fair to say 'Body by Giugiaro, Soul by Bizzarrini' ?

Found my Hamilton Programme at last. I had it alongside the laptop and hidden under a book, (my wife probably tidied up...) rather than in the box or pile of programmes in what I refer to as an office and my wife refers to as either a tip or a no-go area.

Car 11 is down in the programme as a 1961 Ford Scorpion and driven by Kylie Walker. Such an error prone programme that it may or may not be 100% correct - and I can't remember seeing the car since. An internet search hasn't shown up anything though.

Going back to old slides that are in glass, but have benefitted from a strip and clean up, whilst trying to log the film codes and the dates! Apologies again if any have been posted before. In date order.

First Lambo I think I had seen. At the local garage. Parent's house was the one shown directly above the Duckhams sign. Probably about 1969 - going by the number plates.

At one time, this was probably the most raced classic car in the country, as Tony Herbert was able to enter in about three classes at many meetings - and did so! I'm not sure of the date or event, as it could be a TACCOC practice day but not sure about the tents across the other side of the track. Could be a practice day before a Nissan Mobil 500 meeting?

Trying to categorise/date before I go away, so not much scanning being done, but a lot of data management work. A recalcitrant scanner that doesn't always focus properly isn't helping... As usual - A Mix of Pics.

I think this is a Miller, but I'm not too hot on cars like this. At Silverstone July 1977

No such problems with the Lola Aston Martin though! July 1980 and I still haven't tracked down a programme for this meeting.

I was having problems with my own camera at this meeting. Using a Russian Leica or Contax copy called a Kiev. On several occasions, the film jammed and I had to open the back, hence the leaked light. never had that problem with Dad's old Leica, nor a succession of Pentax film cameras.

Your picture from 1971 Brands Hatch, i wonder if this is the same car at Taupo this Year. Travelled with the English F1 contingent.
At Taupo this year I had the pleasure of chatting with a gentleman in a wheel chair who was looking at Bretts car and his wife mentioned he had worked for Surtees on F5000s, so I took them nex door in the pits and introduced them too the now owner. The look on his face when he saw the Surtees was unbelievable and after discussion It was the car he worked on and he burst into tears, it was an amazing moment to witness, and all those years coming back. They spent a while talking and was great to think history meeting again.
I believe that this kind of meeting is what we all do this for and why we love these special cars, as every one of them has and is something special and a part of some persons and in most cases alot of peoples life.
