Mount Maunganui
Mount Maunganui
I came across a Dec. 29th. 1962 programme. In a sports car race there is two Lycoming's. No. 22 F. Cardon, No. 40 B. Harrison. Different cc's. Anyone know about the second Lycoming.
Re: Mount Maunganui
Possibly Duncan Rutherfords car.. From memory it was powered with a Lycoming engine and based on one of Hec Greens RA specials...

Re: Mount Maunganui
The second Lycoming entry at the Mount was not the Duncan Rutherford car, which never raced in the NI, but a Wellington-built car which never actually raced anywhere

Duncan Rutherford
Duncan Rutherford was quite an interesting, if not eccentric character. There is a lengthy article on him in a book called (I think) "Heaps More Grady's People". Don Grady is a Nelson writer and has put out several books with similar titles to above about "characters" of the top of the South Island. He is not a motor racing writer but the article's 70 or so pages are pretty much all about cars, as the attached first page shows.
