Chris Whites 100 [ M spec ] NE 354

NE 354 the well raced [ in different forms over the years ] by Chris White, looking very complete with its bumpers on. Nigel thanks for the posts, keep them coming, great shots.

the car with the cold air box intake, when I posted the engine shots in this thread, was if Chris' car at Masterton in 1989, was " sans bumpers " then.

AHCCNZ events - 1984 National Rally at Napier / Havelock North

Post by Roger Dowding »

Not chronological but another set of photos, the 1984 National Rally, have already posted 1989 and 1990, so going backwards in time.
in 1984 a group of Americans, from the West Coast, California and Oregon mainly, people I had met in 1982 when in the USA and a few others. We all billeted them and arranged share in cars to get there including some BJ9's [ not Healey's in AHCC parlance, one was a " WolsHeAley " 16/60 - seen in a couple of pictures, was still BMC.

outside my home in Herne Bay, our daily driver the Mini 1275 and my Healey 100 with Wayne and Sylvia Brown, Frank and Margaret Karls 16/60 and on up the road for Spgeti a Riley Elf !!.

on the road Taupo Napier Road I think, Wolseley in the group, it kept up obviously didn't do the 90 mph thing like in 1989

The Red Sprite at the front nearest camera, FD 6525 was mine back in 1979 - 80, retained by my ex-wife and then sold in about 1983 .. had an engine rebuild and was rather quick ported polished balanced had a Cooper S Distributor, Cooper exhaust manifold modified by turning the bottom of the pipe through 90 degrees and rewelding, Cooper muffler and at one time ran a 40DCD Weber, before reverting to twin SU's to make it more tractable for the lady concerned, plus my mate wanted his Weber back, came off a Sunbeam Alpine

Bruce, amazing,
72-75 was in Mt Albert til 1980 actually but ;I lived at 88 Sarsfield St on the corner, from 1980/81 to 1995, but the family had lived there since 1929, my Great Uncle Frank Bell [ of " Adams Bell " cake shops before they became " Adams Bruce " - Adams were cousins of the Bells ] and his wife Dolly, and his sister Daisy, then my Grandmother, she would have been there in 1972 - 75, next door 90 Sarsfield was a couple Colin and Jenny had the place in the late 1970's and my grandmother used to bake scones and hang a bag of them on the fence for when they came home.
I actually bought the house in 1985 from my Dad as Grandma was the last to pass away aged 90 in 1980

PS my 100/4 purchased in 1982 came from Laingholm but had spent some of its life at Cooks Beach .. small world !!

Spgeti, rewriting this as didn't read your post correctly, I was living in Mt Albert 1972- 75 up until 1980 in fact, then moved to 88 Sarsfield St, which had been a family home since built in 1929, was sold by a Real Esate agent Stace Bennet to my Great Uncle Frank Bell, and he and his wife, then his sisters, my Great Aunt and Grandma lived there, Grandma died in 1980 and I moved in, then in 1985 I bought the house from my father and stayed for another 10 years, my 100/4 came from Laingholm but spent a lot of time at Cooks Beach, where the hotwire wheels and strange brakes were fitted [ A50 drums on the front, smaller than the back, hairy when slammed on, as the back would lock up first.

Not sure who was driving, as cars were shared amongst others including our American visitors, probably Bernie in the last shot.
The car was sold by Bernie in recent years and the new owner tried to fit a Chev 350 ci V8, but had issues with compliance, so is / has reverting / ed to a Valiant Motor as all complianced and had been that way for much of its life since 1967/68 one of the last series of BJ8's .. I think BMC BOY knows a bit more about it.

Post by Roger Dowding »

Seeing as Bill features changing the wheel post above, Here he is with two of his Healeys in 1986, both works racers, ABL 6, in BMC colours [ Red White ]and UJB 141 [ Green ] which raced at Sebring in 1960.

Bill was a regular visitor to NZ,worked in the timber industry [ machinery ] and used to visit Rotorua, Tokoroa etc to see the Forestry people .. handy to catch up with his Healey mates in NZ ..
other person is Mark Donaldson, founder of the AHCCNZ in 1972/73 .. wearing his famous shorts

Yep, if he had put his foot down the tail would come round, and off you go !!, well that is the theory, I was known as Roundabout Roger as often went right round, instead of sliding out then moving forward.
