Re: Hampton Downs Festival 2016 Porsche
Brilliant racing by all, especially the ERC Classic Race Series (NZ) which again had the best supported grid and anecdotally the best racing to watch, but unfortunately never seems to get the recognition it deserves. Perhaps the powers that be could look at the numbers we get in our races and the fact that most classic racers do so on a relatively small budget and acknowledge this more openly and support the series (and other similar series). As a racer the delays between races and car recovery times can be mind numbing, just a suggestion but could we not run fast recovery vehicles (such as the large quads at Taupo) and quickly pull the stricken cars off behind safety barriers rather than red flag or yellow flag races for multiple laps. Also a safety car just past the pit entry allowing the finished race cars to exit the track whilst the next grid could leave the pit exit behind another safety car and get the grid ready much quicker. Both these point should save a massive amount of time during each race meeting. On a positive note the cars at the event were stunning and a big thanks to all that attended, also a thank you here for the fantastic work done by Ray Green over the millennia, no pressure but boy has Mr Brown got big shoes to fill.

I would like to give a special thanks to all those who worked hard to make this event work over the two weekend from management, Debbie Day with her team, right through to and including all flag marshals, grid organizers and coordinators.
All this work is voluntary and its so neat to have this annual 2 weekend Historic Festival, where all a competitor has to do is to arrive wanting to race.

Which marque is being celebrated next year?
Re: Hampton Downs Festival 2016 Porsche
A model that has been around for 50 odd years. Ken Smith.

Re: Hampton Downs Festival 2016 Porsche
Totally agree - and note the tender age of the dummy grid marshals! The Scott/Day family (Tom, Anna Deb, Martin, Caitlin and Shiane) are mainstays of local motorsport fraternity and have been for a long, long time (well, the older ones for a long, long time, the younger ones for a long time...)
Without them and the Motorsport Club, we'd be back to the days of the annual Easter AROC meeting where you had to bring along a helper or you couldn't run; TACCOC meetings where CoC Stan Edwards penalised yellow flag infringements by sticking the errant drivers on a flag post for a couple of hours; drivers having to do a stint on a flag post as they were so short of flaggies and the meeting couldn't start until all posts were manned.
I for one believe that all new potential drivers should do at least 3 meetings as a flaggie before getting a race licence.

And in the oppressive heat of the day, when we are all in shorts , singlets, hiding in the shade, -Mr Twopie and the the guys/girls were out in the sun in their race suits................
