Show And Tell - What Do You Drive?

Post by Steve Holmes »

I thought it'd be cool to have our members post up photos of their classic car and/or race car. Lets see what you have, and feel free to share details and stories that go with it.

And, feel free to also post pics of cars you've previously owned but no longer have.

Here is one of my projects: 1938 Ford Deluxe coupe, traditional hot rod with 1955 Oldsmobile Rocket 324ci motor.

No doubt you can all do better than me. Lets see what you have.

My 1924 Minerva AB. Next month [January] will be 91 years on the road...it has been fully registered all that time, and still runs beautifully. Sleeve valve, 3.3 litre, 6 cyl. engine.

The original owner [behind the wheel], and Brian [the bloke I bought the car from] on the running board. That makes me the third owner.

Well my garage is full of modern cars compared to what's been posted so far.

The toy on the right is a '65 Mustang, 289 V8, C4 auto, all original spec. 2 barrel carb, drum brakes all round and still with a single exhaust underneath. Not a muscle car, just a cruiser.
On the left is the Thai girl (that's where it was made) that my Mustang spends each night with :)

Current crop is a modern but this is back in 1989

1953 Austin Healey 100 owned from 1982 -1995, 1973 MGB GT owned from 1987 to 1996, 1987 Fiat Uno, purchased new sold in the 1990's 1971 Austin Mini van , owned from 1984 to 1990

This was after the Sprite and the TR4A.
Shifted from a house and three car garaging to an apartment with a single carport in 1995 so things had to change, the MG stayed to be replaced by an MX5, and the daily driver was a Daihatsu Feroza 4WD, then a Rover 216 Cabrio [ say Honda ] then a BMW 318 Compact, still have the MX5, back in NZ, under a tarp in a family carport [ Eddie Dowding's ] and in need of TLC, one day !!
Current daily driver is a Suzuki SX4, as shown the Lakeside Sept 2015 thread. reliable, not up on stands or getting crawled under to tap the SU fuel pump. The double garage had a small pit where the Fiat is parked, so could do a lot of work at home.. too old now for that stuff !!

John, thanks, was my best Mate !!.
" Sammy the Dog ", he always managed to get in photos and loved being in cars, I think anytime I went near the garage he thought he was going for a ride.
He was in the TR4A when I had the accident, in the back squab seat, behind the roll bar and when we stopped was in the front, hit his head [ mouth ] on the dash, but was OK. was with me almost all the time I had the Healey 100, Healey from 82 - 95, Sammy from 80 - 93. - another Classic he had quite a few Sports Cars to ride in, during his lifetime

Hyndman roams around in these two vehicles.

The 1962 Mini Cooper looks better now than it did in 2008 !
(note the high level fire fighting system at the back seat area.. a watering can ! )..Not a project I will ever do in my garage again !
The red punch bag was often put to good use ! Especially when the front windshield was removed and the roof almost collapsed because the pillar posts were rotted out !

Ken's Mini restoration in 2008.jpg

Note that I have not given up on my homeland, although I had to get a NZ sticker to help explain what NZER meant !

Also this plate tells the age of my 1962 Austin Mini Cooper.

Bracken '74 BGT in the foreground was bought to re-shell my old 'B roadster race car. I drove it for 2 weeks before it went in for a roll cage.

Harvest Gold '73 BGT is / was my daily driver, I bought it on Boxing Day 1999.

Hyndman found a 1985 A+ 998 engine and transmission in a field that was about to be bulldozed under for landfill. The engine had been sitting outside with no plugs installed and was full of water but the price was right ! Bit of a project but it now sits in my Cooper and runs great and the gearbox is a vast improvement.
Here are some photos of that project. From the junkyard to the garage.

All ready to go. Tried to keep it looking as original as I could.

Thanks for that! Nice pic. After the initial restoration (It was yellow when I bought it.) Also, after someone took a chunk out of the left rear wheelarch at Whenuapai but before the big bang at Pukekohe that topped and tailed the car! Note that the number-plate is now on the Cooper S.
