From Saturday - Ganley Festival

Little 'n Large. Little won - Large retired. Little' is an American in a British car, Large is a Kiwi in an American car...
Beowulf
Just Snoozin...
More laps at the front of the field at HD than anyone else - and still no race win...
This is the crowd at 10am, Saturday... Judging by snatches on TV, that is better than most meetings. The car park was getting a bit full by Midday too.
Next year (2016) the Festival honours Porsche. The year after, this Kiwi icon - Kenny Smith.

More Kiwi icons. Derb's of course (background), assisting his protege, John Tomlin on the PA. No idea who the dude is getting out of the McLaren, "the cars are the stars"...
According to the programme - and past programmes, this is Greg Thornton from the UK, having a real battle with Kenny Smith - but according to whoever did his signwriting, "Gerg Thornton".

A few pics from Taupo. Not just older cars this time, but just to show the variety of machinery that may just be at a meeting.

Time attack...
I have never really understood why any modern race track has a starting grid that extends around a corner. No roll up to the starts were allowed this time for the handicaps (this pic is of the scratch race), which made a 32 car grid a long one and didn't help with handicap calculations either!
Good to see a couple of Ganley Festival entrants from the south island making the trip north and doing Taupo en route. I wish more would do that.

Guess who is driving the Model A Roadster???? Very famous car! This is a car that we built at North Shore Automatics that equalled the Standing 1/4 mile record for NZ.....12 sec! This is Johnny Windelburn driving the the Colin Praast owned 427 Chev powered Model A Ford Roadster. I remember donning the grinder goggles and John took me for a blast down Porana Road and a million miles an hour.....was deadend in those days........an absolute weapon! Car ended up at Vazeys home with a tree growing right through it! They had to cut it up to remove it. Currently being restored by Peter Church at Bunce and Curtis North Shore.......regard, Tony Rutherford.

ERC, knew a guy back in the 1990's early 00's called Owen Fausett, who ran a Rapier, had a car detailing business, I know he did a couple of Whenuapai events around 1999

Owen is often around assisting Chris Atkinson (FJ Lotus) and is a regular poster on TradeMe - usually taking the mickey out of MGs...

Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection
Weekend 2 - I was far too busy to take pics at the Ganley Festival, so just a couple of snaps from the compact camera.

When I first saw this, it was no more than a pile of bits in Chris Watson's garage on Sunnybrae Rd. Looked stunning
I'm sure when I first saw Major Arthur Mallock's U2, it was nowhere near as well presented as it is now.
Apparently, this was only completed yesterday.

Nice photos Ray, Grant will be pleased to see his car. He was saying that while he was quicker than at the McLaren meeting he felt very off the pace. Then again Steve Ross said much the same. Spent lots of money and still not able to keep up.

David Piper's 250LM Ferrari at Mallory Park. I even have a 1/43 scale model of that car.
The annual Racing Car Show at Olympia in January each year was one of my favourite events.

Three wheels for a change...
[CENTER]
I was offered one of these when I was far too young to embark on a restoration! What many may not know is that the Raleigh 3 wheeler morphed into Reliant, when Raleigh decided to stick to bicycles. The car's designers bought the rights to the car and also the components that had already been manufactured. When they relocated from Nottingham to Tamworth, they had to come up with a name beginning with 'R' as many of the components had already been stamped with an 'R'! That is a bit of trivia for you...
The UK's National Motor Museum has its own Top Gear display - including this. A museum well worth a visit. Monorail in the background.
