Goodwood Revival 2004

Post by superroo69 »

Awhile ago I asked Steve if he would like me to post some of the photos I took at Goodwood, whilst I was living over there and he was agreeable, so here is the start of it. As there is quite a bit, I thought I might as well start with the first event I attended there, which was the Revival meeting in 2004. As I indicated in an article I did for Australian Classic Car at the time, I was like a kid in a candy store... and everywhere I looked, there was a bigger and better lolly.

I will put them up in small batches, as and when I get a chance and hope you all like what I upload.

Cheers

Paul

Brilliant pics. So the sun never shines in the UK then?

Glad you liked the photos... and yes, the sun does shine at times!!! :-)

Rex... the Napier Bentley and the Napier Railton were two of my favourite cars over in the UK. Unfortunately my list of favourites was quite extensive!!! :-) In fact, all of the old Brooklands cars were just fantastic, and the sounds they made, sent chills up your spine. I'll show some more of them later, in another thread.

Anyway... here are a few more images for you to view. Mainly from the older vintage, but with some not so old cars thrown in as well. BTW... this was the year that Jack Brabham was honoured and so there was a large number of his cars on parade.

I just love these modern Hi-Res. photos-they really show the cars as in real life.

Wow, these are just superb Paul, thanks heaps for posting them. I hope you don't mind, I've placed a margin between each image so they don't all join up with each other, just makes them easier to view. Keep them coming Paul, these are great.

You can count the roll-over frames on the finger of one hand. What has changed since 2004 and today?

Agree! My pics in 2009 (taken with a compact camera only) show a Connaught with roll over structure. It looks hideous.

Keep 'em coming. Pic #3 in post #4 - front engined grid start. Several of my all time favourites in shot - particularly far left - ERAs.

Due to earlier interest, here are a couple more of the larger capacity cars.

Love those Bentley specials! Have you also noticed that every single car is identifiable. Viva la difference!
Don't you just love the driver's expression in the Barnato-Hassan! Top pic...

These cars really do epitomise the old addage... "There's no substitute for cubic inches"!!! :D

As ther was also some interest in the older front engined single-seaters, here are a couple more... plus a special ring in

Do you have any info on this car? Obviously an old speedway Midget, but the nose is very interesting, and not like those typically seen on Midget cars.

Car 28 is Jack Brabhams Midget that has raced in NZ. I took these pictures at Philip Island in 2008

Hi Steve

As GeeBeeNZ has indicated, this is Jack Brabhams original Speedcar... the one he used to win the Australian Speedcar Championship... and just to prove it, here they both are on the cover of a Speedway Royal programme from 1950. Enjoy!!! :)

Wow, impressive GT line-up. How did the Willment coupe fare? I've always loved those Bizzarrini's. I remember seeing two of them competing at a historic event at Silverstone many years ago. One of them was actually pretty competitive with the fastest Ferrari 250GTOs and Cobra's, but you do wonder why they're not faster. They're fitted with a mid-mounted small block Chevy and are incredibly low. A pretty god package really.
