Information on Ford Escort rally car JX1600?

Hi everyone,

I'm after information on the history of a Mark II Ford Escort with the rego JX1600. Looks like its been a rally car for a long time - now needing some TLC.

Any information or leads appreciated thanks.

Hi,

JX1600 was rallied by Glenn McIntyre in the early 80's

this combination finished 9th in the south island Motogard of 1980,

these photos are from the rotorua national championship event '81

Wow that is excellent information - I know very little of the cars history so finding that out is just great - thanks!

It began life as a 1600 pushrod. McIntyre and co-driver Dennis Roderick were very quick in this car.
If I recall correctly if was treated to BDA power in the early 80's and then to full RS1800 spec. And a colour change.
I have some old photos somewhere but not as good as those posted.

Hi Bruce thanks for the info on its development. If you have a chance to post some of the old photos that would be great as I'm keen to piece together as much history as possible. Do you recall what the colour change was?

Photos are well buried under the stairs but I'll have a look when I can.
From memory the car was sponsored by a local radio station at the time and was repainted white with
purple or dark red flares and sills.

Hi There, I reckon I could help you with this. I owned the Escort in the late 80s early nineties, wondered what happened to the old girl :-). Got lots of pics and can fill in the gaps up until it disappeared up north . Cheers Doug. 0274 364 323
