Post by John B »

Here's some early video from the 1964 New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekohe (6 mins 13 sec). Unfortunately it's a 'silent movie'...

Murray Maunder, who's been the custodian of these old slices of treasure on behalf of the McLaren trust, has already published these here on TRS on another thread, but they are always good for another gallop. It always impresses me how big the crowds were, considering the restraints of advertising in those times, ie newspapers and posters. Underlines the esteem NZers held their motorsport stars in, with kiwis winning the first and last F1 GPs of the 1960s, ands with the world's best regularly dropping by each northern winter for a few weeks' holiday in the sun with some good, clean racing in between.
Fantastic.
