Milan-I have never seen this before, and makes excellent Sunday morning reading, once again my compliments on furnishing this thread with accurate , historical literature. I love the way he says "not sure if he ever should have quit" ..Accurate thumbnail history here. .He definitely had successes and always great to see our heros and legends from the track remembered. This article will go into the treasure folder. Brian Crosbie very close behind in the pic- Ruapuna May 17 1970 ?

Talking about reporters, I have just being talking to Karen Fahey, she told me that she was 4 years old and at a race meeting and was interviewed-obviously with dad Paul next to her- , one question was-who is your favorite racing driver. She remembers very clearly and happily saying RED DAWSON.Very happy memories of those days, everyone had kids, you could walk on the grids....

Thanks Milan, hey I remember reading that when I was at the event. The Falcon GT Grady trailered in to race had apparently never been road registered, according to the commentators at that event. Not sure how true that was. That 69 Camaro he said he was building never did surface!

Sorry John, I don't recall much at all about it. Can't even remember the colour! I'm sure you're right though, there will be more to it.

There is more to it all right Was at the auction when his GTHO went up and was talking to the guy who had done a repaint on this car.He told me about the very distinctive sign writing that was under the previous paint, and repairs from reported race accidents that confirmed that this was a known racing GTHO.

Milan, would you have a program from Pukekohe meeting 8/9 December 1969 showing the 0-5.5 litre class-particularly the page where Rod Coppins is entered with the Monaro?

Interesting to see that. Red had already built up a good points tally at this early stage. But once Rod got to steer the Camaro, and started notching up the points, Red began having quite a few dnf's as he ramped up the horsepower in the Mustang to stay ahead.

Re: Team Cambridge Monaro
I bought 53 Motorman mag on Trade me recently from 67 -76 to do an update on race saloons, events and results. One of the most important things I noticed was that there was a real shift in the whole format in mid 73.The standard of paper went down hill , also the reporting of races became abysmal , no detail of the races at all.Just a line who won, nothing of practice and times-except the Tasman series. And the advertising covering complete pages. The race photos, getting less are blurred..This change seems to coincide with Donn Anderson not being editor and a David Hall being involved .In 76, it definitely looks like a shoe string outfit, with no good reporters or decent photographers., and 25% of the content about Jap bikes ( not even Kawasaki 500s) , all on cheap paper.Bottom line is, lets be so grateful that there are photo collections and archivists out there that contribute to these threads.

I think Donn sold up and went overseas, or something, around that time? Someone here will know better than me.

steve, met Don in 1970 , he was based on Dominion Rd., met him and Inders there one day.He was an enthusiast , and his brother is the famous Rodger Anderson .As editor , the mag was great. No doubt Donn could be a watcher of roaring season out there somewhere.Hey Donn, this all makes for better reading than Classic Car mag surely, come aboard if you are watching-you are still a legend

Here's another of my photos of George Bunce in the Monaro. Have you seen the other one I posted on the Monaro thread?

Re: Team Cambridge Monaro
I notice a Tim Slako in the programme Mailan posted in Post29 above. Is this the same Tim Slako who raced the Pink Walky in OZ? If so was he a Kiwi who moved to Oz or a Strine who visited here?
Cheers

Re: Team Cambridge Monaro
....Lee, Tim Slako is a real Kiwi pioneer in motorsport, lives and runs a very succesful 'tune Shop' in Perth, is the Australian distributor of 'Red Line Oil' products, Tim is one of those people in motorsport that you can't help admiring,he has that ,'I'll give it a go', approach, topped up with a 'ton' of talent, I recently rang Tim,first time in a lot of years,as I had a couple of young friends, from overseas,on a road tour of OZ, stuck in Perth, transport had died,Tim in his usually friendly, leave it to me approach, had them in a 'realiable' 4x4 and on thier way....thier parents in Germany are ever so gratefull to Tim for his Honesty and Integrity.....Tim's a Good Guy!!!.....But ,then he is a Kiwi!!!
