A Rally Car, Drag Bike, 4 x4 Offroad from the Early 80's and some Stockcars,

Post by TonyG »

First of all a Lancia Rally car that seems to be the only shot I took from out the back of Bombay Hills one year.

This was quite often parked on what used to be the vacant land next to the club track at Pukekohe. (I believe the land is a shopping centre now)

The Phipps car was run by Dave Bray, and that body is the one from Trevor Crowes Corolla if I am not mistaken. I crewed for Dave for some years.

Wow small world. I used to crew for Gary Parker at Waikaraka when he started with the Stockcars and finished with it about 2 seasons after he bought Merv Julians T Bucket Modified. I got sick of constantly doing fabrication work on a sunday when there were other better looking distractions. lol :)

Wow, these are just fantastic! I LOVE old speedway photos. And some of the tow vehicles in those shots are as interesting as the race cars. Note the chopped down Transit van in the one shot, then the XA Falcon hardtop in the next. Very cool!

And I really miss those old speedway saloon from the 70s, when they had the big tall injector trumpets shooting up out of the hoods.

The saloons at least looked like saloons. Falcon Coupe really looks the part., a real car, not a profile.

Richard something IIRC for that beautiful Falcon. Lance Jennings behind Rowan in the top photo.

Falcon coupe No 25 is Richard Bennett from Hamilton. Rowan Geck still has his No 21 Falcon in one of his farm sheds.

I would have to ask my brother that one. It is now owned by the president of the charger club in the South Island.

Ooh s..t ! Does he ? I might have to get my sister to chase that up and see what else he has in the sheds too. My brother in Law was his mechanic for many years right up to but not including this one. Interesting. Hmmmm!!!

Great to hear it still lives. Be interesting to find out which one it is. From my own register I have a missing space for a hemi orange with tan E49, body number 1153.
