Yes Oldfart theres to much jousting from those old retired folk on here some of then need to get out and do something usefull.Bucklers please tell me about your car who had it new and who else what gear has it got ect I realise you may have done this allready but not that I know of.they certanly took over from the MGs ect back in the late 50s

Nice of you guys to open this up again. I need to correct the comment "Ferris had no competiton history" as I have programmes from an earlyish (mid 50s) Ardmore showing him as an entrant and driver. I will need to dig them out to get exact date. From memory it was not a high level meeting.
I am also told that Ferris had one of the early cars as well as the one sold to Graeme.

In reality I could say "Whatever", he was the genius who created the best looking bodies for the Bucklers, and I mean worldwide.
However, I am still no closer to getting any history of mine, and that is perplexing!
Somebody, somewhere, must know something of it!
To refresh what I know for sure;
English "90" chassis and suspension
Front half of the body de Joux, moulded in red, rear Mistral.
Was road registered,(66/67) took part in some sort of trip/tour South Island, date unknown.
Full height windscreen, brass surround, suspect it is Herald,
Engine etc unknown in the period.
Was used as the support for a potting table from around mid 70s to 2000, North Shore Auckland.

Said to be true but...
Crashed lightly in the Domain around 71, supposedly at a hillclimb, but nobody knows of any events there at that time.
May have been owned by someone around Remuera named Ayer or similar, airline or airforce connection.
And that's all I know!

Ferris never competed at any of the G.P. meetings.

He raced in the 1958 Ultimate-Ekco Handicap at the GP meeting, and was entered in sportscar races in both ensuing years, though I believe was a non-starter on both those occasions

De Joux is also shown as replacement driver for G Brown in same car in the Ken Wharton Trophy Sports Car Race, where he retired on lap 9 of 25.




Did he also race the Vanguard engined car as a saloon around 1960??

He entered it in the sports and saloon handicap at Dunedin in 1960, but I don't know if he actually raced it

Another potential identifier for my car, was gold on at least one occasion, and of course the full windscreen, half and half well done body blend..

hey steady on Oldfart the real topic.. you rubish jaguars that have always been for the last 60yrs one of the worlds best loved cars won Le Mans and every mans dream,instead you go on about some old car that you dont even know its parents!!!I understand seeing its you first rebuild, but if you think you can sling off at my cars and escape ,think again .You can sling of at myself and thats quite ok but not my cars and notice Amco how rude he is towards me ?and all I said his boy takes after his Mum!!!!plus I have 2 new knees!!and I rode my 531 around Taupo when I turned 50 the next week I rode Hamilton to Whitianga a 160ks and 100ks

Answering my own question : Yes, he ran a 2171 cc de Joux in the Saloon Car Handicap race at the 1960 NZIGP meeting, trailing the whole field and completing only 7 of 8 laps.

Notes re other posts : was he de Joux or De Joux (refer TNF - David McK)

Jim Short - Ferris was a department store window designer/dresser by trade, so knowing what attracted the crumpet would be second nature?

Jeez Jim, you keep on telling us that your schooling was limited, but this thread, which I started was about 1 single car, a Buckler which I have asked the membership for info on.
It is you who has turned damned near every thread that you have written on into a Jag thread. Even the Dave Silcock thread turned into a general Jag one.
Just start a thread for Jags, which incidentally I like too, and then you can do whatever you like.
Likewise there was a thread titled Ferris de Joux, yet another who I admire, but that one has been left in the cold to distort this thread too.
By the way Jim, it is far from my first rebuild, probably closer to 50.
