What a Rip-Off! It was only 5 cents at George Courts way back when!

On the topic of old neglected car collections, there is an 80-page story on the late Duncan Rutherford's collection at Nelson, in "Heaps More Grady's People" (*)by Don Grady. Some of the cars pictured in it are squeezed between trees etc but they aren't pedigree sporting cars mostly.
(*) think that's the right title : Grady has put out several books over a period about 'characters' from the Nelson/Tasman/West Coast area. Not a motor racing story but an interesting (?eccentric) character all the same.
I found it in the Auckland Library system.

Re: Abandoned, Forgotten, Neglected, Race And Road Cars Thread
Every time I open a Classic car magazine these days there are pictures of 'Barn Finds'. Now I know that some of these were stashed away in sheds and lock-ups in the UK when Dad went off to the war, and didn't come. Very sad, but also very sad was that the car remained in the shed/barn in memory of Dad, so 2 lives were lost. I'm forever reading where a car has been 'bricked up' for Gods sake, in some smelly, damp old shed, only to be rescued 60 years later by an enthusiast, after the shed has caved in, who had sort of known about it for years, going on a tip from some local. I don't know, I really feel sorry for these machines, that they have missed all these years of being out on the road shooting the breeze.....I know I'm bloody stupid.....it's JUST an old car, it hasn't got feelings.....well I got news for you pal. My old Singer, that you can read about it's resurrection on Yards and Yarns, was bit like this, although it only endured 10 years of neglect, not 60, and she rewarded, yes rewarded me with a lot fun....racing Austin 7's!!!!! And while we are at it, cars are meant to be DRIVEN. I dont care how rare or valuable they are. They are not museum pieces.....if they are also beautiful to look at, then thats a bonus. I'm on my 3rd box of tissues after looking at these sad remains.

I was looking through an American magaze dated 1986 that had a lot of pics of in various yards, the pics are in not good condition but I might try and resarect some and post.

Amco I hate to differ but cars do have feelings ,time and again when i am thinking of selling one ,its amazing how well it runs!1
Re: Abandoned, Forgotten, Neglected, Race And Road Cars Thread
Your not differing Jim, your agreeing... quote....'it hasn;t got feelings'......WELL I GOT NEWS FOR YOU PAL......'amazing how well a car runs when your thinking of selling it'.....and how many cars have you sold that you have regretted ever since??? You KNOW thats going to happen when you sell the Coombs, don't you Jim. But then we are just a couple of funny old men. The Jaguar could end up like these poor old girls, abandoned and forgotten, is enough to break out the rum!!
