Re: Photos - From The pits
Ray, You are correct with the order of the cars on the grid.
Can you name the gents standing behind the BRM? Kerry Grant ?, Doug Lawrence?
Michael, Thanks for the correction re the STP car. Yes it is Chris's March in 1971.
A bit confusing that McRae drove an STP car in 1972, and won.

Re: New Zealand Historic Saloon Cars Under HRC
I was interested to read about Jim Crystall, and his Wolseley.
I don't remember this car but I do recall a J. Chrystall from Taihape who used to race am Austin A50 in the mid 60's, especially at Levin.
Any connection?

Re: Photos - From The pits
The 3 pics in my post uf three days ago were all taken at Levin. The Molyslip team was probably the first major multi car team in NZ motorsport. This pic probably March 1965. Drivers' cars in this pic include Jack Nazer and John Ward, I think. Car 21 I believe is Baron Robertson's Heron in 1968/69 ...

I am keen to obtain a copy of Issue 70 of Classic Driver containing the article on Ross Jensen's 100S
Does anyone have a copy I could buy?

Re: NZ Castrol GTX Racing in the 70's
Thanks for the program and results Milan.
The little 12oo's couldn't match it with the 1600's on Pukekohe's long straights.
Things were much more even on the tighter SI tracks like Ruapuna & Levels.

Re: NZ Castrol GTX Racing in the 70's
I competed in the 1973/74 SI series in an amazingly quick Datsun 1200.
Also took it to Pukekohe for the January meeting. Those chicanes certainly sorted the brave from the not so brave,

Re: RIP Chris Amon
A very sad loss to the world of motorsport, especially downunder. A great driver and ambassador for the sport. My first memories of Chris were his appearance at the April 2, 1960 meeting in Levin. He was entered in his Austin A40 Special, not the highest performing, or prettiest car on the program ...

Re: Tasman Series Memoirs 1968-71
The Datsun 1200 was my car which I ran in the SI GTX series in 1973 (I think)
This meeting was the last of the SI series so I sold the car to Ron Rutherford prior to moving to Melbourne.
Great times.

Re: Austin-HealeyÂ’s and the Austin Healey Car Club of NZ and Others
Sorry I omitted the year...I believe it was the October 1956 Levin meeting. I do not know the origin of the hardtop which looks pretty primitive but racing drivers ( and their passengers) were tough back then. Can't imagine current "front of the grid" drivers driving to a national meeting in ...

The attached image may bring memories to some readers. Ross Jensen preparing the 100s for racing after driving it down from Auckland to Levin. Picture was taken in the driveway of my parents home in Levin where Ross & Hazel used to stay during race meetings I am not exactly sure of the date but ...

Re: Old Programmes, movies and memories from the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies.
Levin Entry list April1960.jpg Some real history in this thread. Great to see copies of the old Ardmore and Pukekohe programs. The race entrants show many of the unsung hero's of our sport who competed in these major events without a chance of placing against the stars. The following images from an ...

Re: The Jeff Law Collection
Oh how I wish I still had my 1955 RME Riley... Maybe I would if I'd had the skills (or cash) to restore it all those years ago. Bought for just 20 pounds - with knackered big ends in 1970 - and sold for 70. Sob, sob. One of the nicest cars I have ever driven. What fantastic memories from Levin. I ...
