Re: Slot Car Racing
Hi ERC, thats a really nice picture of your early 1964 home track layout. Would it be possible if you could send a copy of that image to my e-mail [email protected] , so I could add it to my archive. It could also possibly be used in the magazine article I'm writing next year. Thanks if thats ...

Re: Slot Car Racing
Hi Roger, thanks for that excerpt from Nelson Photo News, that is great and i appreciate receiving a scan of it at higher resolution. It’s a picture that conveys the scene how it was and the enthusiasm, we all had for slot racing in the golden era!

Request for Images of early NZ CCommercial Slot Car Raceways 1968-1973
I am looking to try and track down any images people may have of early NZ Commercial Slot Car Raceways from around 1967 to 1975. I am planning to write an article on the early days of Commercial slot car raceways in NZ. I know that there were usually tracks in most towns throughout the country and ...

Rothmans Sports Foundation poster for the 1969 Tasman Series
Original promotional poster for the 1969 Tasman Series. Rothmans were big sponsors in all things motorsport at this time. This poster from my collection provides the details for the Kiwi races in that year.

Porsche 904 GT in Winfield cigarette colours
This Porsche 904 GT slot car is a pretty rare beast. It was based on an Atlas chassis and was marketed in NZ by obscure company called RSL. This car is survivor of mine which I've had since 1970. It was painted gold in 1972 with stripes taken right off a Winfield cigarette packet. The original Hit ...

My Dennis Marwood '69 Camaro Slot Car built 1971
This clear plastic '69 Camaro, modeled on Dennis Marwood's Rorison Racing version that came to NZ in Dec 1970, I built in 1971. It has a Mabuchi FT 26D motor which was a bit of a killer motor in the day. Rather amazing I still have it.

My tribute to boyhood hero Red Dawson
My blue and gold '67 Shelby Mustang. Yes it is a slot car, based on Pioneer blank slot car kit. The number 35 is hand painted and the hand ain't as steady as it was 40 years ago, but end result looks okay. Takes me back to my boyhood each time I lay eyes on it.

Hears a wrapper from a original pack of Winfield cigarettes from 1971-72. I used the other side of the packet to decorate a slot car I was running in Winfield colours during 1972.

Winfield genuine merchandise from 1971-72
I collected everything in the day. Cigarette advertising was king. Winfield was the last of the three Rothmans brand racing teams after Lexington and Cambridge. All rather obscure brands, when it came down to it. I loved the blue red and gold colouring. This was the exterior tear wrapping from a ...

Rare Carter Racing Team decal
Genuine Mo Carter (Canada) racing team decal I acquired from Nita Dawson, Red's widow, in the late 80's. They lived opposite a friends of mine in Redoubt Road Manukau at the time. Also acquired a few cool photos, badges and other decals, during the garage sale Nita and family ran at time she was ...

Re: New Zealand Slot Car Racing history and pictures wanted from the 1960's and 70's
Great to see those wonderful pictures Milan. Amazing you still have those wonderful Revell, Cox and Russkit boxes. I don't remember there being many American slot car kits around during the years of 1968 through to 1972, when we were huge fans of slot racing. Was wondering was that why you organised ...

Re: New Zealand Slot Car Racing history and pictures wanted from the 1960's and 70's
Thanks fella's for all your great personal memories from the legendary first great era of slot car racing. I knew there were quite a number of tracks sprinkled around Auckland, but wasn't aware there were so many during those fabulous times. Also great to hear about tracks that operated in other ...

New Zealand Slot Car Racing history and pictures wanted from the 1960's and 70's
I'm looking at writing a piece on the early days of Slot Car Racing in New Zealand from the 1960's and 1970's. This was the first golden age of Slot Car Racing and I was involved in it with a group of young school mates. Coming from Auckland, we had two great commercial raceways that I recall well ...

What happened to the original Red Dawson Willy's Coupe
What an amazing job he has done. Years ago I heard that the original car was somewhere in the Wellington region but have never been able to prove it. Owned by a hotrodder. I saw a beaten up coupe at the Palmy Swap Meet 2013 and wondered if it was the car. Garry Price has a very nice 4 door for sale ...

"Golden Era"!, motor racing, saloons and single seaters, movie footage 1971-73, (Standard and Super 8 and some 16), most of the coverage from 1972. Film was professionally transferred to VHS in the 1980's and recently put into digital format, with some restorative work done. Film footage was all ...

Copied from Television NZ coverage to VHS during period 1986-1988 by seller. Recently professionally transferred to DVD format and enhanced and restored in the process. Some parts are a little grainy but quality is generally very good. Features include: 1988 Two NZ Championship Group A races at the ...
