Re: Northern Sports Car Club - the early years.
Roger - I'm not Des' son but my father and Des were first cousins - so related but a generation apart. I'm fortunate to have his #66 midget which evolved into the A40 Special.

Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection
Interesting comments Ray and Rhys and the sort of thing we are grappling with Formula Juniors. Wearing my TACCOC hat, the cost of meetings are getting to the prohibitive level for most club based event organisers and the need to have large grid is becoming a necessity. With FJ we have trouble ...

Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection
That's correct - both John Histed's car and my car were part of the three car quasi Lola works team (Team Fitzwilliam Racing) in 1960 predominantly racing through Europe. My car was chassis BRJ1 (the first Lola single seater made) and John's was BRJ3. John's "lost" it's chassis number when it was ...

Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection
The Gordon Keeble KS92 was one that I looked at buying in the late 1980s - it was the ex-Sir Roberston Stewart car from Christchurch. He was the PDL racing patron and the Minilite wheels came from one of the versions of the PDL Mustang and the guards were slightly flared to accommodate them. Took ...

Thanks Rhys - maybe the one for sale is a later built Jarvie but not on a Buckler chassis?

Re: NZ Cars - A Cottage Industry
From doing some subsequent research I presume it could be the Jarvie bodied Buckler 90 built by Merv Mayo around 1956 and later run by Malcolm Gill?

Re: NZ Cars - A Cottage Industry
Would anyone know the origins of this car :

It was meant to have been built in New Zealand in 1961.

Re: This is getting ridiculous
Hans were initially designed for F1 use where the high cockpit sides provide inherent protection for the driver's head from lateral movement. As such, the Hans only had to deal for fore and aft head movement which it controls very well. However, in situations where there is no in-built lateral ...

Re: This is getting ridiculous
Is this being driven by external H & S consultants/advisors or are HD/Highlands scared of any legal implications, when I would have thought that the promoter is the one carrying the risk. I would think that it has been done with good intentions on a H&S basis and probably on the recommendation of ...

Re: This is getting ridiculous
Probably best a call to MSNZ technical for that one Ray, for clarification. There must be a few machines out there that either a seat (FIA standard 8855 -1999 or 8862-2009) does not fit or impractical for older single seaters. I have just posted up what has just been released from MSNZ to help all ...

Re: This is getting ridiculous
I wonder what MSNZ think of this? All tracks in NZ can only operate if they have the appropriate track licence issued by FIA but under the auspicious of MSNZ regulations. MSNZ have established the requisite competitor safety requirements and these are detailed in the MSNZ Manual. What has happened ...

Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection
Remember the first festival, cars from all over the world there in the huge marque. would have been 90 to 100 million bucks worth just in the big marque. Juniors, F1, Can Am, F5000, sports cars, and out the back HMC, Sports Sedans, your groups. huge, and people loved it. Bringing in cars and ...

[quote="Greg Stokes"]...... most have fond memories of the car but those off shore or don't appreciate Allcomers Racing of NZ, look at the Morrari as a silly and foolish waste of a Ferrari! ..... There are some overseas who appreciate the Morrari as in communications over the years with UK motor ...

Re: New Zealand Historic Racing Cars Book
In its heyday I can not recall the GCS ever having telescopic shocks rather than lever type. I have a number of period photos of the GeeCeeEss showing telescopic shocks front and rear although it is possible that George tried lever shocks initially - the photos of it immediately following ...

Re: New Zealand Historic Racing Cars Book
Thanks Trevor - the GeeCeeEss will be refurbished NOT restored. It was a great car and when running properly it was virtually unbeatable in the early 1950s. I am determined to keep it in the format that George ran it - it was never a Beauty Queen but most of the time it ran pretty well and George ...

Steve Holmes wrote:Hi Roger, many thanks. Would you mind if we featured the GeeCeeEss in the book?
Yes that's no problem Steve. I'm in the process of getting it back from Don Suckling and I'll then undertake a refurbishment back to 1952 format with Ardun heads on the Flathead.

We had the Kiwi flag flying in our pits at Laguna Seca over the weekend with myself in the Lola, Michael Sexton in the Gemini and Neil Tolich in the Jocko with Allan Dunkley on the spanners. Great track to drive and the Lola and Gemini survived but unfortunately the Jocko did a camshaft in practice ...

Are you intending to go back to some of the successful NZ built specials of the 50s - likes of Lycoming Special, Stanton Special, GeeCeeEss etc?

Re: Mentioned in Passing
Don't think it was the motor racing Wayne Wilkinson - he is Wayne Robert Wilkinson and the one who died is Wayne Brian Wilkinson. A couple of names have appeared in the papers lately that could be former racing drivers. Wayne Wilkinson died on the 12th of April and Des Radonich on the 17th of April ...
