Looking for photos of Gulf Cobra in nineties
Hi there. I am trying to track down some photos of my Cobra racing in the nineties. It was raced at the Wellington Street race 91 and 92, Taupo 92, Ohakea 94, Whanganui Street Sprint, Pukekohe and I imagine others. I have had the car since around 1994, so have some since then, but anything welcomed ...

Re: Images From My Past - Nigel Watts Collection
Do remember that trucks are big and heavy, and gravel traps and armco don't always stop them. Maybe MNZ can be a bit pedantic and wrapped up in red tape, but the trucks are also big dangerous beasts that shouldn't really race at some of our tracks.

Re: Leadfoot Festival 2015!
Hi there, cool photos from you as usual.
It was a great weekend, had lots of fun in the Cobra, and finally got below a minute with a 58 second run, only ten seconds off the pace!
I would be keen on buying some photos of the cobra, please let me know how.
Cheers
Bevan.

Bugger that. I'd be packing the car back up again. Would be an awesome event, but no owner deserves that.

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports
I guess the guys that have loads of money will just buy the best legal tyres and run them with as little tread as they can. The only people I see this affecting are those that have racy road tyres and don't want to have to change them because of new rules when they can't afford unnecessary expense.

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports
I am still wondering why this is an issue? Let people run anything, no need to complicate things. They shouldn't be changing tyres and breaking out from the official times for handicaps.

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports
Yeh that's them. The fronts have more tread than rears, and outer third of tyre is basically close to a slick, and has wear holes like a slick does. My car used to be such a handful on road tyres, and with the amount of racing and road work I do the tread wear isn't my issue. The car was awesome on ...

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports
Bugger I just went and checked the tyres on the Cobra! The kumhos that central muscle cars used to run, so we're cheap as second hand and better in both the dry and wet than my road dunlops, but... Tread wear is 50.

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports
One benefit of slicks and race dot tyres is that they grip and can actually last longer than slidy lower spec tyres. If you are trying to encourage more drivers good tyres will help the budget issues.

Re: New Zealand Historic Muscle Cars Under HRC
Ps the mini in under 3 litre class. I actually understand you excluding. Angus is no doubt a really fast driver. But in the mini I think he drives at 12/10ths. At leadfoot he spun or hit something every run. If he backed it off a tenth he would have an amazing time, probably the same in your class ...

Re: New Zealand Historic Muscle Cars Under HRC
Hi Dale. I think there are a few things coming to play: 1. Economy - spending is down, entree fees, fuel etc cost a lot, and people will pick and choose the events more, I think this year will still have lower entries all round. 2. Your class- it is restrictive, on purpose, but of course you will ...

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports
The best race event I have ever been to is the leadfoot festival run by Rod Millen. Part of the reason for it being the best is the variety of vehicles and people that are involved. We are all out to have fun, look at some cool cars, and chat to like minded people. I have been involved in classics ...

Re: Escort sports sedan (Australia)
I saw somewhere that the sbc is the largest manufactured engine ever. Lots of parts, cheap, good motors. Normally I would say ford in an escort, but this one has some history there somewhere so why not stick to it. I have a chev cobra and get sick of knockers, it has been a great motor, reliable ...

The atmospheric conditions affect the measurement. A cloudy day will make you read higher.
