Re: Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion

There are 12 Kiwi F5000's going to Laguna Seca and 45 F5000's in the races. The split between the early cars, pre 1971 classed as 'A' cars and the later post 1971 'B' cars is about 50/50. The hardest thing for the Kiwi's to get used to will be the no spins, no contact rule that expels the drivers ...

Re: 2015 Legends of Speed

Good shooting Nigel. This was a good event despite the weather. Mainly fine, 240 competitors, 36 races - it doesn't get much better than that!

Re: Ganley Festival - Hampton Downs January 2015

For a man that has probably done more laps of HD than everyone else put together, I was distressed to see Tony Roberts still struggling at the hairpin and eventually spinning up. Tears welled in my eyes and I tried to suppress a sad smile when my 7 year old son then said...."Dad.....maybe that big ...

Re: Ganley Festival - Hampton Downs January 2015

There are 30 listed in the programme. I am not sure what happened to the other 20, but the Festival website should have been updated. It is still saying 50+ cars. I'm sure there were a lot more at one of the earlier festivals, as they had two qualifying sessions with different cars resulting in one ...

Hi Dale It was a privilege to collect the Sybil Lupp trophy for you on Saturday night. People were saying a lot of nice things about you, but I put them right. I alluded to your dream and vision of a period correct Muscle Car Class, but didn't mention your bad knee! You thoroughly deserve the award ...

Re: Longest engine evolutions

The Alfa twin cam, all Aluminium, hemi heads etc was produced in almost identical form from 1954 to the present, from 1300 through to 2000cc. The variations that are still in use to day have twin spark heads, that was first tried in the 1960's, belt drive instead of chain, and 16 valve heads.

Cool shots Mike.
Even the Corvette's running the homologated big flares and is that a Bolwell in front of the Datsun in the third picture?

Tire Sidewall Branding lesson 101. A hugh amount of information is available from the sidewall branding but not all information is equal. Depending upon where and which market the tires are manufactured for then there are several different brandings applied i.e. Europe ECE , America DOT , Asia CCC ...

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports

Luxury Howard! I'd like to do the same, but I only own 4 wheels for the car and it takes me about an hour to change all 4 using the equipment I have. So trying to sort out the two handicap grids, I really don't have the luxury of a 'Harry' or the time to do the work. Tyres have to last me about 4 ...

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports

So why ban the Hankooks from U3L? If U3L cars are able to run with the Hankooks at say NZFMR alongside HMC (with their own specific tyre regulations which seems to have settled on the Hoosiers) the relative speed gap will close and U3L entrants will enjoy a tyre cost reduction as well. Win win it ...

Re: ERC Race Series - Euro Saloons & Sports

Ivan had flat spotted his treaded tyres and fitted slicks, without telling me - which is of course not allowed. This was noticed by other drivers and an observant pit lane official but it was too late to change the handicap, so he was allowed to run, but romped away, which was a bit naughty ...

Re: Where Are All The '70s And '80s Photos?

Remember the Bruce McLaren Trust has 100,000 photographs running from the 50's to the 90's. They have owned these for 14 years now and have been steadily scanning and cataloguing them.

Great work Royce. All historic formula ford drivers need to get behind this series to ensure the fields remain large enough to keep it viable for promoters. From the competitors I spoke to, they all seem to have had a load of fun!
