Re: History on this Escort?
The car I recall, which we competed against on a very regular basis, didn't have flares on the front. I remember thinking of it as unusual at the time. I couldn't tell you the rego number or the name of the colour but it was orangey red.

Re: History on this Escort?
Harvey Kibble ran a Mk1 with the bubble flares on the rear only out of Wellington in the 70's. It wasn't commonly done.
His was red/orange with Small's Books on one side and other signage on the other.
I couldn't say if it's the same car.

Re: Early NZ Rallies
Not so much a rally story but all these photos of the Masport Team and Kevin Lancaster remind me of attending my first MANZ conference as my club's delegate and the associated awards dinner at which Blair Robson received his '78 NZRC title. At the dinner I had the pleasure of being seated directly ...

Re; the '81 Daybreaker pictures. It is indeed Bondy in the Hunter, Graham (Chirpy) Anderson in the Civic, Shane Murland in the Chevette, Brian Green in the Escort. All of the others are familiar, they'll come to me a little later. Is that a ginga helping pull the black RX3 a young Crunch Bennett? We ...

Re: Roll cages
Righto Ray, without wanting to dig up old ground, I've said before, if there is a genuine issue which can be fixed by a sensible solution, your only chance is a remit at conference where the matter will be decided by the delegates, not the Executive. The deadline for remits is close of play tomorrow ...

They came to Te Marua speedway also and had planned a 2 wheel escapade down the Wainuiomata Hill road. IIRC that didn't happen due to issues with Council/MOT/ road closures etc ...

Re: Roll cages
The clip is still there, you have to enter it in the search field as Jac Mac said. I've lost count of the number of rally cars I've tossed off cliffs or planted in trees over the years and I've not had a battery break free of it's bracket yet. In the clip it certainly appears that the battery is ...

Drop me an email - mailto: ? subject= & body= and I'll send you Dennis's cellphone #. He could fill in most of the blanks and maybe put you in touch with Glenn.

Re: Information on Ford Escort rally car JX1600?
Photos are well buried under the stairs but I'll have a look when I can.
From memory the car was sponsored by a local radio station at the time and was repainted white with
purple or dark red flares and sills.

Re: Information on Ford Escort rally car JX1600?
It began life as a 1600 pushrod. McIntyre and co-driver Dennis Roderick were very quick in this car.
If I recall correctly if was treated to BDA power in the early 80's and then to full RS1800 spec. And a colour change.
I have some old photos somewhere but not as good as those posted.

Re: Roll cages
But you are still overlooking the fact that there are 100's of cages out there that are deemed OK to contine racing. No, I'm not overlooking that fact at all. Indeed it is strong justification for allowing the cage in it's present form. I have previously stated as much. To meet the test, just have ...

Re: Roll cages
It wasn't my intention that either of you cover old ground but, rather, fill in a couple of blanks so there's no jumping to wrongful conclusions. There's a lot of rocks being thrown at MSNZ on this thread and, as a consequence we've seen an assertion by Crunch that "they don't have to do anything ...

It is only right that you are attempting to do so. Dave & Ray ... you have gone to some lengths describing issues ...

Re: Roll cages
Carl, MSNZ is too willingly to effect change and impose cost on competitors for the sole purpose of compliance with FIA and uniformity. Neither is a valid enough reason for change. Many cars are permitted to compete in NZ motorsport by virtue of 'grandfather clauses' which tells us that the ...

Re: Repowered Classics
Yes Crunch, I ought not allow my frustrations to get the better of me. My apologies. Also thankyou for finally providing some semblance of an answer to the original question. Classics & historics are generally expensive, can be temperamental and are usually costly to run. It is vital that the ...
