Re: The first race meeting I attended was....
Mine was the 1983 James Hardie, stayed up all night watching old Falcons change colours and fell asleep about 3pm and missed the finish.

Gricey won a round in 1980 and the car was involved in a big crash, Waneroo IIRC, maybe written off ?

Re: Article: BMW M3
I was at Amaroo for the M3s Sydney debut & remeber the amazing noise the JPS cars made as they came towards you. The beauty of Amaroo being you could just walk up to the open carport that they used for pits and look into the cars. Couldn't faults Frank's cars for preperation, rather eat of the floor ...

Re: Article: Pete Geoghegan's Mustang GTA
Yep, absolutely I used that article. I also used 'The Australian Touring Car Championship' book by Graham Howard and Stewart Wilson which was published in 1985 and covered the full history of the ATCC from each year since it began. I also used 'Ford: Falcon, Mustang, Sierra' book by Stewart Wilson ...

Re: 1987 AMSCAR Sports Sedans - Amaroo Round 1
Rod I cant say, it was out of our sight. My memory is they stopped the race & the circuit was closed for a long while. My friend & I walked around the circuit & found the car off the track to the right just over the hill & it was a bit of a mess & Romano was out of the car & gone.

Re: 1987 AMSCAR Sports Sedans - Amaroo Round 1
Pretty sure the Torana of Bob Tindall was designed/built by himself . The sound of those cars reverberating around Amaroo must have been great Dave .. Loved going to Amaroo. Sitting up on the rocks down at Stop/go, then walking over to the carports & checking out the cars. The JPS cars were always ...

Is the Tindall Torana the ex Gary Rogers car ? I was at that meeting BTW. The good old days, just car racing, no stunt bikes or XXXX Angels.

Re: 1956 Fiat Series 306/2 Grand Prix Transporter At RM Auctions
Bjorn Kjer, author of a recent transporters book is a major contributor to the Transporters thread on TNF, as no doubt many of you are aware. He claims DSJ is wrong about the vehicles origin that he rode in, the Maser part anyway. He is re-researching his information & hopes to shed more light on ...

Re: 1956 Fiat Series 306/2 Grand Prix Transporter At RM Auctions
Apparently there is some contention as to the origins of this vehicle. There are claims that it isn't ex Maserati, but that Reventlow bought it new.

Re: The Garry Simkin Collection - Part 3
I didn't know that. When were the gearboxes swapped? Did Riley do this? I think they were both purchased at almost the same time by the Bowdens. In the AMC article on the Total car, Glen Walsmley, the chap who the Bowdens purchased the car from, is quoted as saying that Reilly had swapped the Top ...

Re: The Garry Simkin Collection - Part 3
Hi David, the Geoghegan car did end up in NZ but it was Rod Coppins who bought it off Geoghegan, raced it for a season, then sold it to Riley. However, the Riley Mustang you see in the photos here is the ex-Paul Fahey car, which was a 1966 Shelby built Mustang. In a 1970 interview with NZ Hot Rod ...
