I am not sure that is was banned. I think this was the Escort that Don ran in Shellsport and then later switched to a Mk1 Twin Cam in order to be more competitive.

As always, I am willing to be corrected

Sad to hear of Robin's passing today - he was a passionate supporter of all types of Motorsport for many years. It was nice to have his encouragement and support as a young photographer, and he would use not only some of my photographs, but material anyone sent to him, before the print deadline ...

Re: NZ GTHO Phase 3's that raced in Production Series....

Someone may know the GTHO by its number plate FV6314 and sponsorship from Continental Car Services Ltd on the boot. Tim Bailey bought the car (straight from from McMillans I think) and raced it for a few meetings before selling it as a road car. The Torana parked behind it is the ex Roy Harrington ...

Re: Flat Plane Cranks

I could be wrong but my understanding was that distinctive sound from GT40s was due to the cross over (nest of snakes) exhaust system. This was probably what the Mustang had. I think the first experience with flat plane cranks in NZ in a V8 (apart from the Cosworth DFV) was with the Repco Holden ...

Re: New Zealand ShellSport Saloon Series 1978 - 1985
