Re: NEW CLASS / SERIES; Historic Sports Sedans. formation meeting.20/04/13 ACC
John, no offence taken, Jim stated that the ex Millen car was not a sports saloon and I agree as it never raced in that class when it was in the form as Millen raced it. It simply was a different car. Clive ran it for a time in classic racing in the form he purchased it in from whoever and then did ...

Re: NEW CLASS / SERIES; Historic Sports Sedans. formation meeting.20/04/13 ACC
Indeed Powder, this car is still around. It is with FOGG Motorsport in Auckland having a very extensive, and I have no doubt expensive restoration. The car was in a very poor state when it arrived at Angus' workshop. Over its years of racing it had become very loose and floppy, with lots of English ...

Lawrence Jones ran a white XJS V12 in the Muscle cars in the early 90 to mid 90s- does that answer you Jim? Mike Hourigan who sold his XJS V12 to Les Parkinson, this ran Wellington race and others at that time. Understand that Clive Gott ran the ex Millen jag in Sports Sedans Now here is where we ...

No not Berts car wrong racing number and number plate. How about one of the Wyness bros? I seem to recall doing a red Mk2 for one of them many years ago.

Re: Roll cages
Once again I am back on here because people just will not address the issue or fail to retain what has been posted previously. I have a report, and so does MSNZ, that the tubing in my car is 25% stronger than the tube they would have me use. However an FEA test showed that even so this would fail ...

Re: Indy Roadsters
I can reccomend Smokey Junick's 3 books if you all are interested in this period of Indy racing. He states that if you let the steering wheel go when the engine was up to speed, you would be lucky to get a grip of it again, as the engine vibration made the rim grow to about 4 " in diamater! Those ...

Re: SFOS 2013- Photos/Videos from Ruapuna/Levels/Teretonga
Thank you Grelley, someone has finally got it? a “Club Meeting” but advertised as a “Classic Event”, this seems to be the South Island way. If they would only promote it like that then there would be no argument, all types of vehicles racing each other, not a problem “A CLUB MEETING/EVENT”. Back to ...

Re: SFOS 2013- Photos/Videos from Ruapuna/Levels/Teretonga
Amco, I suggest you keep quiet about stuff of which you know nothing. The Country Gents movement was actually the brain child of one Harland Baker who at the time owned Huka Lodge. The first meeting was a sprint held on the road into the lodge. Harland and Allan Bramwell were mates and Bramwell ...

Re: Repowered Classics
I have posted on this subject before, but why does a car have to have been in exsistence before to be able to race? If it is built to the design and technology of the period then is it not for example a Twin cam or BDA Escort? or a Mini Cooper? What is wrong with having 6 or 8 of these running round ...

Re: Tony Shelly Jaguar Mk2
This Mk 1 of Ray's seems to have slipped off the radar, but yes he did race one before the silver Mk2. It was maroon and I remember seeing it being loaded on to the Lyttelton ferry in one of those rope net things they used to load cars on to the ship back then. But I could not confirm its the one ...

Re: Is there a future for Formula Ford?
I agree, Although I am suprised that they are not more popular with the historic racer. They must be cheap to run at that level, and I'm told they are fun to drive, but man are they boring to watch, no noise, no revs and not many of them look good. Perhaps they are just not cool!

We have here a Jag 3.8 that - according to the writing on the back "hit marshalls post, back straight Pukekohe 1966?" ID anyone - wasn't Dave S was it? No not me, was a near new car ex Archibald I think, note old school Dunlop racing tyres. I used to know the name of the guy that owned it but ...

Re: Roll cages
Great news Ray, but is this any closer to you being able to race it at any level other than club sport? Or have you, like me, given up on the Evil Empire and the Troglydites that inhabit it?

Re: The Mc Begg
Rick Diehl built PDL Mustang 2 with a fluxing torch made out of an old truck remote mounted oil filter. You put the acetylene in one side and a pipe near to the bottom of the filter body, which was filled with the liquid you bought, mixed it all up as a gas and it came out the other side and burnt ...

Re: Trusty Rusty TREKKA
And I owned two of them . My first car was a 1924 4 cylinder tourer that had been turned into a saloon and very badly at that. It only had rear wheel brakes , but had OHC and a cross flow head and had an extravagance of machining only just equalled by a Phantom 11 Rolls. The second was a 1923 six ...

Re: Tony Shelly Jaguar Mk2
In all my experience with Jaguars I have never heard of a Raymond Mays head for same. Ford Zephyrs yes, but Jaguars no. It is nearly impossible to fit 3 carbs to a mark 2 without cutting the inner guard. The Wills race was for standard cars and the black Mk2 that Archibald raced had to be returned ...

No Jimmy, the car was worked on at a company called Dynatune, they had previously done the Vauxhall Cresta for the Bryan/ Davies entry in the 6 hour and Jimmy worked there. I opted out after the 3 hour drive but Jimmy did the whole of that season with the car.

Re: Fahey Shelby in the Bowden Collection
When I was asked to co drive the Bryan in the 67 3 hour race I was told it had been raced in the States in a long distance race that required a co driver. It had the regulation two 4 barrel Holley carbs and had certainly done some work. Jimmy Stone and I fitted the 48 IDA's to it and made up a ...
