Re: Shipping vehicles from US to NZ
Thanks a million guys....I now have three contacts and that's three more than I had previously. Numerous 'phone calls and e/mails to Baltimore-based shippers AND US Customs have all gone un-answered.....it's been a most frustrating exercise
Again..many thanks

Shipping vehicles from US to NZ
I need help..!! I am planning to move from Baltimore MD back to Auck NZ. The shipping agent I contacted tells me that I CANNOT ship a part restored vehicle, packed in the same container with related spare parts AND a small amount of house-hold items. Anyone else ever run into this? Any help, advice ...

Hi Ken, There is nothing more frightening than when nature turns on the people. I hope you and all your friends and family are free of this devastation from here on. Bruce. We are all thinking of you.............at least on this side of the US.......the non-shaky side....all we have to deal with is ...

Re: Bud Moore
In another life, when I was Tech. Training for Arrow Automotive Industries...I frequently visited the Arrow factory in Spartanburg SC...just up the street from Bud Moore's shop. Arrow, at that time, sponsored an SCCA Mustang and Moore's input was sometimes very useful in the development of the race ...

I'm sure that Lee Holman's memory will be rather better than that of 2 old fogies, trying to recall details of a road-trip some 15 years, or so, ago. In any event...he should be able to flesh out the details of those cars

Re: Article: Ford Falcon Sprint
In the early (ish) 2000's a friend called me from Ohio ( I was living in Baltimore) and asked if I was up for a trip to visit Lee Holman at his facility on the south side of the Charlotte Airport. Apparently an offer to purchase the site had been accepted and in preparation to moving premises ...

Re: Build Thread: The Roaring Season Firebird
Steve, I'm not convinced that ally rads ARE the be all and end all of cooling syst problems. They LOOK good and probably are a tad lighter, but is that weight saving all that important in most cars?....I doubt it !!. My own experience with a well-worked SB Ford in a Sunbeam Tiger has been that a ...

Re: John Nicholson RIP
Like a surprising number of Kiwis, in the fringe car and car-racing industries, John spent time with Motor Specs, in their engine re-conditioning facility in Auck. As I recall he ran the 'jobbing' part of their shop...in back of the 'production' shop. I was 'loaned' to him for some weeks in order to ...

John Boyd poured a lot of money into that car, owned for a short time.Guy who bought it from Boyd has owned it since back then. You and your Dad met him with me at a HSS event some years ago. Car just sits.............. I visited with the (then) owner of this Tiger, sometime in the early 90's ( I ...

Re: Indy Roadsters
Interesting thread indeed. Tough cars and tougher drivers. Driving a large oval is no cakewalk, as several rookies and F1 drivers soon found out. I've always been a tad surprised that the name "Offenhauser" has endured..........the man himself had precious little to do with the design and later ...

Re: SFOS 2013- Photos/Videos from Ruapuna/Levels/Teretonga
I would guess that the examples quoted: Phillip Island, Monterey, and Goodwood have, by comparison with Teretonga, considerable budget sizes to play with. I have visited Goodwood several times and even as a spectator, it has priced itself out of MY realm; Monterey similarly. Goodwood in particular ...

Re: Abandoned, Forgotten, Neglected, Race And Road Cars Thread
David, with your encyclopeadic knowledge of motor cars, I hesitate to question you on an identification, and as there is no exclamation mark after the word 'thought', I have to presume you are not kidding us. Just exactly which car do you think is a Crosley. Crosley spelt with one S, as against ...

I knew Bill for over 60 years; we both grew up on farms in Pukekohe East; our fathers became good friends sharing interests in fishing, hunting and, in their spare time, farming. In those days, Bill's dad, Ben, was the 'go-to' guy in that area, whenever anyone had some form of farm machinery that ...

Re: Old Race Tracks
Grass-tracks seemed to come and go with some regularity. ISTR an 'auto-cross' type venue at the Aitkenhead Sawmill location on the Pokeno-Thames Rd. and another venue over the Waikato, from Tuakau----in the Pukekawa/Onewhero area. This was basically circular where 'races' were held..a sort of 'red ...

Re: Widebody S4 Lotus Seven
What an odd series of exchanges this has been. In those days, many NZ based manufacturers had agreements with over-seas suppliers of technology or materials; the company I represented had such agreements with the Associated Engineering group, in the UK and the Cleveland Graphite Bronze Co, in the US ...

Re: Widebody S4 Lotus Seven
FWIW Steel Bros had been in the fabrication business for almost 100 years, before the Lotus venture. The quality of their fabrication(s) and their honesty in their dealings was, and is, unquestioned. This was very far from a 'nickle and dime' outfit, trying to assemble kit cars in a back shed. Steel ...
