Re: B&W Photos 1968 - 1970; From Baypark to Amaroo Park by Ken Hyndman

All Cooper S models built in Australia were Morris with the block print style badging. When an ordered for delivery through an Austin dealer in NZ the car would have the Austin badges fitted at the plant before shipping. Grilles generally remained the Morris version, some were changed by the dealer ...

Re: The first race meeting I attended was....

The first "proper" motor race meeting for me was Ardmore 1958. Watching the speed of the cars down the back straight was mind blowing for a 11 year old. The size of the crowd, the noise and the colours no wonder I was hooked for life!

Re: Random Photos Thread

Two different cars as the roll bars and exhausts are not the same shape. I think the first one is Ken Sager on the left of the car and his Dad leaning over it. Unable to identify the second car.

$45 or $50 is a small price, even for us pensioners, for all the history that is being revealed on the site, . Like others who have expressed their concerns, I hope the quality contributions continue. How many subscribers do you need to make it viable?

Re: The 1965 and 1966 Wills 6Hr Race

Don Hadfield was Evelyn Hadfields husband and a well known competitor in many forms of motorsport. He had a roll over during night practice for the 1967 race. The car was a Datsun Bluebird and rolled when the left rear wheel dropped off the edge of the tarmac and dug into the dirt exiting the loop ...

Yes Pete I was parts manager for your Dad from 1973 to the end of 1976 at Papakura. I was also a committee member of the Auckland Car Club alongside Les. As editor of the club magazine when the article calling him "Friendly Les" was published I had a lot of questions from him demanding to know who ...

Les Rankin

NZ Herald Dec 3 has a death notice for well known Pukekohe clerk of course Les Rankin. Les had a reputation for being fair but firm with drivers and officials alike. Very few people from the period would not have a story or two about their dealings with "friendly Les". Rest in peace old friend.

Steve, great pics of you and Ralph. I recall driving the Fiat 124 back to Auckland after a Bay Park meeting in my capacity as a Tech Officer for post event scrutineering. Nice car and good to see these production car pics.

Great clear photos, Interesting to see the people in the back ground of old motor racing pics. Standing at the back of the Leo Geohegan car in red shirt and blue shorts is the late Peter Bruin.

G'day from WA

Just recently discovered this forum and have already spent a few hours looking at the comments and photos. I was a member of the Auckland Car Club for 20 years. I served on the committee and was editor of the Bulletin for several years. I also did some time as a MANZ Tech officer, but please don't ...
