Re: Photos: The John Metford Collection

Unknown Formula Vee in post 2 I look at and think Rob Lester for some reason but looks like the name is Pickford on side of cockpit. Purple Escort, front row 3rd photo in posts from club track looks like Jimmy Stone in his Gedore sponsored Escort. Escort behind the Zap Starlet. Any ideas on who ...

Re: NZ attack on Le Mans 1996? Any info?

From the sponsorship on the cars, it looks like a lot of New Zealand companies supported the 1996 Le Mans effort... > New Hardware Clothing > Giltrap Motor Group > Destinations Unlimited (Allan Bremner from the Porsche Club) > Flamecrusher Another nice touch was the "Le Mans 1966 - Chris Amon ...

Re: NZ attack on Le Mans 1996? Any info?

Richard, great analyses of events. Does anyone know where the Porsche is now? Has Bill ever considered getting it back just for sentimental reasons? the car is in the US apparently....running in the le mans livery as we ran it....the owner messaged Jono on facebook a while ago when we had put some ...

Re: NZ attack on Le Mans 1996? Any info?

Nothing wrong with your memory, Richard went several months earlier to set up the logistics and engineering with obvious results. I recall that Own had qualified the car but there was some difficulty getting an alternative driver in the seat due to politics. With the consent of other teams it was ...

Re: Formula Atlantic/Pacific

Thanks for clearing that one up Richard, got my club days messed up! Was thinking when I went around to Graham's workshop, Phil Moore was there working on that tub starting to put it together. I think Bryan freshened the engine and finished putting it together in his garage at home. Are you driving ...

Re: Formula Atlantic/Pacific

I'm not sure if there's any info or pictures of this car on this site so here it is anyway! It's what I recall was the first run for Bryan Hartley's last Atlantic. It was an RT4 (obviously) built up from Ralt Australia's spare parts and was essentially a brand new car. I had been involved with ...

With due respect it can surely now be safely assumed that. ---- Trevor. An old mentor of mine (Rob Lester) use to say to me when somebody uses the above statement, they actually mean "with no respect whatsoever" Personally; volunteers in my opinion do not face the "brunt of the law" as you suggest ...

Re: The State of NZ Motorsport.

It is not the diameter of the tubing but an increase of .4mm in wall thickness, and that is allowable in mild steel. not taking into consideration the greatly increased stiffness of chrome moly. Your claim it is an FIA requirement does not ring true as various people on this forum have had to have ...

Re: New Zealand ShellSport Saloon Series 1978 - 1985

Don't forget the class was revived/revamped as the Tootal Coolwool 2.5 series allowing rotaries to run. Keiron Wills ran his ex Aussie Grp C RX7 which was then turned into the RX8. I remember the buzz at the time was touring car racing grabbing all the attention and many potential smallbore racers ...

If Shell chose to channel their money into an academy that created the careers of people such as Greg Murphy then I have no problem with that. i am sort of struggling a bit here.....can someone correct me if i am wrong please. Shell withdrew from the shellsport series at the end of the 85 season ...

Re: New Zealand ShellSport Saloon Series 1978 - 1985

I stand to be corrected but I've always understood that "the Shellsport category" came to an end because a smooth talking promoter and former MANZ employee had it diverted to support his family interests. mmm...penny has dropped..if you are going with this where i think you are going Russ---then ...

Re: The State of NZ Motorsport.

Understand all that Richard, but you cannot deny that if tier 1 is promoted as the pinnacle of motorsport, then surely it is far better to maintain two or three well supported classes only and fill the remainder of the meeting from local competitors and decent grids. It doesn't have to be the same ...
