Re: New Zealand Historic Saloon Cars Under HRC
Thank you John, it is always a privilege to have a genuine period historic car run in our grid and to David Thompson Snr as well with the Auto Trader Escort as well for supporting us at this meeting as well. I would also like to pass on our thanks to all our HMC and HSC Racers for there attendance ...

Re: !968 Tasman Series Sports cars
Re the spare wheel rule is probably a carry over from what a sports car is or was. When the World Sports Car Championship started in 1953 cars such as the production Austin Healey competed but pretty quickly factory "specials" appeared changing the character of the class. To maintain some semblance ...

Re: Article: Holiday Snaps - Part 3
Ironic that Ettore Bugatti who's racing cars followed the "less is more" lightweight philosophy and who dismissed Bentleys as "the worlds fastest lorries" is now probably best known for these opulent monsters. BTY Steve, I am really enjoying these photos. I had time for only one motoring museum when ...

Re: Who manufactured the last formula one six wheeler
A more pertinent question might be who RACED a 6 wheeler F1 car and the clear answer is Tyrell. twin steering front axles with 10 inch wheels. Unfortunately because it still had the standard sized rear wheels there was probably no aerodynamic advantage, built and run for other (financial return ...

Re: New Zealand Historic Saloon Cars Under HRC
[quote="Steve Holmes"]Thanks to Paul McCarthy for sharing this great magazine article from 1970, showing how the Broadspeed Escorts were tubbed, as per Howard's description. 1970 was the year the BTCC switched from Group 5 to Group 2 rules, with Group 2 allowing more freedom in many areas.] Steve ...

Re: New Zealand Historic Saloon Cars Under HRC
I didn't start this discussion to stir things up but I am happy the way the discussion has developed. I also posted in the HSC thread rather than HMC because it is specific to FIA HTP or Sched K regulations. My understanding of those regulations is exactly as Steve suggests, if you can categorically ...

Re: New Zealand Historic Saloon Cars Under HRC
By and large I agree with your arguments Dale but my original point was that here are two genuine and unmolested Broadspeed Escorts being restored by some of the same guys who built them in period. Absolutely not some replica or car which had a 30 year history of continuous and dodgy modifications ...

Re: New Zealand Historic Saloon Cars Under HRC
The ability to manipulate a clever interpretation of the rules (or legal resources to defend it) of a few notable individuals has always been part of Motorsport. The Falcon Sprint is a perfect example and by the time the race guys had latched onto the somewhat dubious weight homolgation, Ford had ...

I agree Bruce, that front air dam is absolutely not correct for 1967. Actually the splitter/ dam on the CSL is from a later era too.

Re: New Zealand Historic Saloon Cars Under HRC
Last month I visited a workshop in the UK run by a couple of ex Broadspeed guys. They had 2 genuine, well known and completely unmolested Mk1 Broadspeed BDA Escorts there being restored. The amount of tubbing in the rear wheel arch area was unbelievable, chassis rails were notched and the inner ...

Thanks Ross and to flesh out the labelling Ross has already done: Post #154, 4th photo down, Brett Riley, Begg JM1 and Grant Walker, Titan Mk6C continue their epic battle for the '74 - '75 championship which went down to the wire at the final round at Manfeild. 5th photo down Brett in his Titan Mk6C ...

Re: Photos: The Ross Cammick Collection - Part 1
Steve, Is it possible to add these to the Formula Ford thread, assuming Ross is happy with that? These photos together with Milan's programs are pure gold. Can you include the ones on page 6 (#113 to #123) too please? It seems there is a range of years here, for example photo 3 on #145 is me in the ...

Re: North Island Shellsport cars - where are they?
Hi Howard, you are correct re the Mini's. There was a good selection at Timaru but my understanding even more down at Teretonga including historic cars. Like to catch up with you at Legends if you are there. Regards Bruce Unfortunately I have another commitment over that weekend Bruce. The "missing ...

Re: North Island Shellsport cars - where are they?
Slight correction Michael, the ShellSport cars ran within a wider under 2 litre grid at Teretonga. However they were at the pointy end of that grid apart from a few outliers and were an absolute delight to race with. As the meeting was a round of their championship, those of us who were amongst them ...

Bob (Sir Robertson) Stewart had a Gordon Keeble, presumably bought new, during the heyday of the PDL team.

I think Robin Curtis might have that one wrong, Donald went to the UK in 1975 and lived there until his "departure" in 2006.

Re: Trident Palliser, whatÂ’s in a name ?
I don't think your memory is as bad as you claim Kim, pretty much as I recall too. The story of this car is a very good illustration of the difficulty historians and others have in verifying the provenance of old racing cars. Not important with a Formula Ford as they are not 5 million quid Ferraris ...

Re: Article: Olympia Charger Returns To Le Mans
I was at Le Mans in 1976 helping run the deCadenet car (we finished 3rd overall) and clearly remember the American involvement, particularly the Greenwood Corvette. Le Mans had lost a bit of its pull at this stage and always had its own quirky take on the regulations, I guess they hoped the ...

Re: NZ Festival of Motor Racing 2017
My understanding is that the first weekend is being organised by HRC and will follow the previous years' format while the running of the second weekend has/ is/ might have been taken over by Tony Quinn. If so they really will be two quite different events in many ways, obviously different fields ...
