Re: Motoring Books - including your bookshelf.

I have just gone through my library and was a astounded at what I did have. Here are a few: The Bruce McLaren Scrapbook by Jan McLaren & Richard Becht Kiwi Bike Culture by Steve Holmes Burt Munro – A Scrapbook of his life The Vintage Years at Brooklands by Dr Joseph Bayley Full Throttle by Sir Henry ...

Re: The Jeff Law Collection

My association with Jeff goes back to at least primary school days as we went to the same church. Jeff's dad was the paperhanger who came to paint and paper my folk's place. We worked close to each other when he was working for Bruce Watt. Bruce's blue A40, with Jeff at the wheel, sometimes had me ...

Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection

I'm not sure if the Merit range of 1/24th scale car kits ever made it to NZ but they were pretty good kits given that they were 100% plastic - which also included the tyres. Dad built virtually the full set and photographed some of them - circa 1962 at a guess. I remember well him mixing up his own ...

Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection

I remember seeing that green D-Type OKV 3 at Manfeild. It was magnificent - a reminder of the days when Angus Hyslop used to drive his white one from the Hawkes Bay to Levin, race it and then drive home again.

Re: THe Barrie McBride Collection part 1

Steve, I believe I have the answer. I found that Paul Dewar is quite a guy. He was captain of the New Zealand Fly Fishing team for the 2011/12 season. I did a search under Google and found the following. Paul Dewar has spent most of his life in Levin where he was first introduced to trout fishing at ...

Re: THe Barrie McBride Collection part 1

Thanks Sean. There was a Paul Dewar who became very successful in Modified speedway racing out of Palmerston North. I wonder if its the same guy. Sorry Steve, I don't know the answer. I was at the 75th Anniversary of Palmerston North Speedway in 2006, a celebration of the years 1930 - 2005. There ...

Re: Aranui Speedway,Christchurch,Home to 3 World 'Solo' Speedway Champions !!!!!

I spotted this thread during my lunchbreak at work. Motorcycle speedway is such an exciting form of motorsport. Bikes that accelerate faster than a Formula One car. I was privileged, through the generosity of my brother, to be able to attend the Speedway Grand Prix event at Western Springs on March ...

Maybe you are right. However, I have opened the 1967 Shell book and there are two pictures of Kerry Grant in that car and the helmet is a dark colour whereas the helmet colour in the one above is light. There is no doubt that it is the same car.

Re: The Steve Twist Collection - Part 6

Regarding Fiat 1500 Crusader - Classic Driver Issue 42 has an article on Fiats. The suggestion is that with the 125 coming on the market and with stocks of 1500's remaining unsold they were re-badged as Crusaders to make way for the 125. The 1500 Crusader is unique to New Zealand - a bit like the ...

Re: The Barrie McBride Collection Part 2 Rallying

There is an interesting article on the 125T Fiats and their involvement in the B & H in a recent Classic Driver. I believe they were all yellow and seven were entered. It must have been a lap scorer's nightmare let alone the service crews.

Re: THe Barrie McBride Collection part 1

There is something that needs to be corrected here. There are several that are captioned as practice on the Club Circuit. While that loop may have been used for Club events I was never there when that was the case. Cars pictured at that point have finished their race and are heading to the pit road ...

The Chev Coupe was snapped, I think, at the first club event at Manfeild. Somewhere among what Sean has should be a file of that first Manfeild event.
