Re: Just A Mix Of Pics - Ray Green Collection

Thanks, Ray and Dale. It's a pretty little thing, as was the Lola. Which is why, I'd thought, too, that it was a Lola copy when I first saw it in Historics, but I don't ever recall it "in era". Perhaps it never raced at Lakeside or Surfers then, which were my primary haunts. Does anyone know its ...

Until I read the programme, I assumed this was a Beattie/Redline, but in the programme as "Thompson Special". I seem to recall this car racing in Australian Historics a few years back. Sure I saw it at Lakeside in the nineties. Any of you "dual Internationals" on here ...

Re: The innovations of Smokey Yunick

Terry, I think he had fuel stored in tubing wound up inside the roll cage ! He was very clever and cunning and drove NASCAR officials crazy ! (Ken H) Something like that. The fuel line was 2 inch diameter and an incredible length of 11 feet, to give an extra 5 US gallons. And also, the inflated ...

Re: 2016 Goodwood Revival Live feed

Good to see Joe Twyman in the white Elva (Madgwick Cup) got 20 secs penalty and 3 License Points for his senseless barging attack on the yellow 23 into the chicane just before the flag. This has dropped him out of the placings. He had the then second-placed Newall covered without that double strike ...

There were a few evolutions of the Auto Trans, two types in these pics. The one fitted in the car ( J- Car ) has Ron Fournier working on it. This has been fantastic so far. Especially the really wet races.
Watched till I fell asleep last night, now re-watching the huge field of A30/35's duking it in the wet.

Re: Photos: The Rhys Nolan Collection

Thanks, Milan - that's cleared it up nicely.
Was interested in Doug's info re Attwood carrying #2 and how that tied with Attwood #1 car on the Wigram grid photo I posted, but a closer look revealed that the pic is from 1967, as Clark's Lotus is using the stretched Climax V8.

Re: Photos: The Rhys Nolan Collection

Rhys/Steve, Forgot to mention how much I'm enjoying these photos, and Steve's period-evocative "scrapbook" presentation of them - very apt! The other interesting thing I've noticed in the closer-up shots of the Tasman cars that the the driver's name rectangular sticker in large upper case black-on ...

attwood wigram 66.jpeg And this from the Wigram grid that year; again the white/dark stripe helmet. Note his race # this time - 1, and. So this ties in nicely with the NZGP meeting photo in front of the racecourse tote windows, of the #1 car. Rhys - Not disputing the venue, nor saying he wasn't ...

Re: Photos: The Rhys Nolan Collection

Agreed. At 66NZGP Hill had #2 and Stewart had #6. So if anyone can read the number it would help. Beyond my poor eyes..... Just enlarged this one; it's definitely #2. Driver's head attitude looks mighty like Graham Hill's, but too blurred to make out the London Rowing Club markings. So, whose car ...

The helmet looks bit dark for Stewart.

If 1966 NZ GP, would be G Hill; didn't Attwood run only the remaining NZ Tasman rounds?

I think you might find the well dressed gentleman could be Ash Marshall as he was ,I think, involved with the "Soapy Sales" franchise. It was some sort of pymarid selling scheme which were questionable at best. Here's a pic of Ash in "Scorcher" late '68/early '69) Ash-in-car_small.jpg . Could be ...

Terry,
Perhaps Ray was just being tongue-in-cheek when he described Reg as "dreadful".
After all, he was in pretty good company in regards to "drinking mates" referenced by Mr Bell; may have just been a bloke who wanted to keep a shout going!

Reg Papps & Sons

I remember looking at that car at Warwick Farm and thinking the same as most, gee, it is immaculate. I also had never heard of Reg Papps and Sons and have never heard of them since. Maybe it was their one only involvement with racing cars. ??? Dale. Hi Dale, and all Reg Papps fans(?) Not quite ...

Ian Brown in the Super Seven, I'd forgotten him altogether until I needed to identify who was in the fourth car in the pic I posted previously! Driving the Elfin Clubman is Ray Cary, brother of the late Bruce Cary. Ray, The Elfin, from the tape around the nose cone, looks like the ex-Bill Gates ...
