Re: AWA Escort

Awesome thanks. My shell has some extra strengthening in a couple of areas. Across the top of the windscreen inner panels front and rear (the front has the interior light fitted in it) have both been spot welded to the roof whereas as a standard shell is only spot welded in the windscreen aperture ...

Re: AWA Escort

How are you progressing on the restoration of this car Chris? Well I haven't got much further actually Steve as I'm waiting to get a shed up at home so I have somewhere to do the work. Nearly there finally. I did manage to get my hands on the original engine block about a month ago. Long story but ...

Re: AWA Escort

To be honest I don't really know and I don't know if he knew what he was talking about either. I guess it had something to do with strengthening the shell as it was a time before roll cages of course. I've seen the Alan Mann car in the UK and had a good look at the Fahey car during restoration and ...

Re: Lost Race Cars

Apologies - thought your car was rhd at some stage and got confused. Any progress? Cheers Habu All good. No not much progress but have a few more parts. Too many projects that I need to clear out of the way first including a new shed to do it. It's the one I want to complete most but is the most ...

Can't be my car as it is RHD with RHD wipers. My car he never had RHD wipers fitted. There are other differences also by that's the most obvious.

Re: AWA Escort

I expect you are right Les now I've seen this photo. It's probably the best quality colour one I've seen from its time in NZ. Amature photos from this era all seem to brown up somewhat as per the AWA photo on my first post on this thread. Really pleased Steve posted it.

Awesome thanks Steve. Interesting it appears yellow here when I thought it was orange. It may be the photo or it may be another colour scheme.

Re: AWA Escort

Very slow unfortunately Steve apart from sourcing the occasional part. Been putting a bit of effort in the last few months into reshelling my Mk2 that I rolled at a hillclimb when I completely ran out of talent. :( I know I have to get onto the Mk1 and it's never far from my mind!

Re: Leadfoot Festival

Yep Dale the tickets weren't cheap for sure. I definitely wanted to go but wasn't planning on going due to the cost but ended up with three days there crewing (did virtually nothing) on the Vantage Subaru so no cost to me. Hard to know what you missed if you haven’t been but now if I don’t get the op ...

Re: Widebody S4 Lotus Seven

Personally I quite like the look of the S4 although I am more than unlikely to ever own one as I have a sickness for Escorts, Mk1's in particular! I do remember being taken for a ride in a brand new S4 back in the 70s which as a young fella thought was pretty impressive. It went like a raped ape in ...

Re: Pukekohe Car Club 50th Reunion

The movies shown on the weekend were all of Rowan Morgans 8mm and super 8 that he had digitized and put onto a DVD. Rowan said he thought the first event on it was the first ever hillclimb that PCC did! It was certainly old for sure. There is more than an hour of footage and I think some of it has ...

Re: Pukekohe Car Club 50th Reunion

Yep, it looks a bit sad. Any-one we know? Shame it was his road car...BUT it happens sometimes...did my Escort in at an event, in the late 60's..in my case a bit too much courage and not quite enough brain I've PM'd you with the guys name. I destroyed my Mk2 Escort around the next corner 2 years ...

Re: Pukekohe Car Club 50th Reunion

Yep I'll post some pictures when I get some. I didn't take any myself but we had some semi official photographers there taking plenty of snaps. It was a great weekend for sure. Steve Millen won the hillclimb in his Ford GT. As he said at prizegiving his last appearance there was 43 years ago and he ...

Re: Yards And Yarns

Slightly off your topic and Im sure Bob Homewood will have something to say about this but it seems to me the best way to make your classic run cooler is to run it on E85. In fact from what Bob told me you usually have trouble trying to keep your engine warm if you have converted to use it with the ...

Re: 1985 Rally of New Zealand - Digging out the Old Images

And look at the spectator numbers, you certainly do not see that many at Rally NZ these days Personally I think you can blame health and safety issues for some of that. You can only watch from designated areas and there is no way you can chase the lead cars from stage to stage as we used to do ...
