Waiheke Again

The choice of June 3rd was because it would have been a Public Holiday for the King's Birthday. It was also my mother's birthday, so when it fell on a weekday she got a day off school or work!. It was later "Mondayised" . Later TT's were held on Auckland Provincial Anniversary Weekend (nearest ...

Re: Old Race Tracks

it was interesting that in depression times they chose to do the 'first' road race on an island in the middle of winter, there were no dry runs on the mainland to speak of, and the fact that is was a wedensday meant travel was even harder. It must have worked as they continued aside from the war ...

Re: Old Race Tracks

appears that the governing body anzcc (motorsport nz) banned street racing at the time but allowed this one off meet in timaru to run in the interim as it was deemed safer until levels was opened later that year. By all accounts it was a pretty rough circuit and the mechanical carnage and accident ...

Re: Dozy parkers... International.

Parked next to this ute the other day at local supermarket at Kumeu. Photo-0424 (2).jpg The dog was having a doze, and I guess somebody parked it there, so I figure it counts as a dozy parker. It was still there when I came back. Cheap dog-sitter maybe. Sorry about picture quality, old non-smart ...

Probably needed them with the Ruddspeed modifications - would have made a great tow car for a Sprite/Midget Racer .. Good spotting Ray - hadn't really looked at the picture properly .. Bit of a Mess - early Ford Laser beside it what date would the photo be ? Have now ! [ATTACH=CONFIG]63666[/ATTACH ...

McLoughlin brothers

They where a pretty reliable truck engine in there day, only the odd burnt valve [typical of that head design] but not many other problems, would never think you would be able to get a lot of performance out of one though, the McLouclan brothers were in the TVCC, around the same time as I was ...

Mine came by post from the (?......) Bookshop in Nelson. Well written and well set out. Unlike one or two other local histories.

Lake Bryndwr and Drury

anyone know whereabouts in drury they raced? It gets a mention in the Auckland Motor Cycle Club history (Seventy-Five Years on Two Wheels by Dr Calum Gilmour) but only just. It was "out the back of Drury" and included unsealed roads - not uncommon with motor cycle races of the time. It was seen as ...

Seagrove Airfield

Go back to pages 4 & 5 of this thread and you will find more about Seagrove. Back in the 1990's we had a beach place on the far side of the Manukau Harbour. A neighbour there who had a fishing cabin, farmed part of Seagrove and confirmed that even after 50 years the remains of the runways were still ...

Green Valley was a road (or street course) wasn't it - cropped in something I was reading from the Auckland library system recently.

Re: The Morrari recreation

I haven't been able to find a race where the Morrari was number 104. Going by the other cars in the photo - 117 N. Pointon, Chev Coupe, 102 Ivan Cranch, Consul-Jag and 138 Doug Bremner, VW - it could be the December 12, 1964 meeting where the car was not in the programme but did win it's first race ...

Re: Northern Sports Car Club - the early years.

I'm embarrassed by the kind words - if I'm trying to pick holes in Caldwell's story, I'd better be accurate myself. From about 2009 to 2012 I swapped a large number of emails with the late David McKinney, and our David was very hot on any inaccuracies, so I quickly learned to check all the facts ...

Alas Alastair Caldwell

Would the D.Caldwell in the Allfa Romeo be related to Bill and Alastair Caldwell ? I saw this that Alastair had written about his High School third form class which was I think, in Hamilton. Can you imagine having a class like this ! Besides Alastair Caldwell there was; " John Muller who became ...

Re: What is it?

Not a Cooper-MG is it? I saw a Green(BRG)car in a garage workshop several years ago having work done on its front brakes. I think the NZ registration docket recorded it as a 1949 MG Special, and the nose treatment was very reminiscent of Cooper-Bristols from a few years later. Unfortunately there ...

Fun stuff once you work out how to use the site! http://www.christian-claude.com/grasstrack_auto.html What a fascinating collection. I have been striking the same problem over the last 2-3 days.
