Yep, the 911 was the same car raced by Brian Foley in Australia in 1970. Jim raced it in NZ in the 4.2 class, and it was protested pretty much form the moment it arrived on NZ soil. Some considered it not to be a saloon car, even though 911s raced in the Australian Touring Car Championship and the US Trans-Am. It was usually the most dominant car in the 4.2 class, although Palmer didn't contest all the rounds. But I think he may have won an NZSCC race outright with it, so it was plenty fast.
It returned to Aus after its single NZ season, and as John said, has recently been restored. There are actually recent restored photos of it on another thread here. I don't know if Palmer had bought the car off Foley or was just leasing it, but Foley raced an Alfa GTA in Aus in 1971 instead of the Porsche.
