Photo was discussed elsewhere, I believe car owned by Allen Owers from Ashburton. Rod McElrea is listed in the Wigram programme Jan 1984 as number 777 ANZ Touring Cars. The Charger in the background is Jim Little's car

This is the entry from the Golden 100, I assume to be early 1972
Does anybody recall the driver or entrant of the Torana XU1 , car 72
Driver Graham Wade
Owner Dr James Aickin, (possibly from Titirangi)
Can't help with the driver but I can confirm that the race was held on September 3, 1972.

For the last couple of days I have been chatting to a guy in Nelson about his Yellow LC XU-1 that he bought as a “box of bits” from Tauranga in 2004. He has the original ownership papers and the Chassis number on the papers matches to the number stamped into the left hand inner guard and is registered with the plate FH1159 and Richard Brocklehurst appears as the first owner on the papers.

It appears as though Richard Brocklehurst's Yellow LC XU-1 isn't in OZ as originally thought.

Does anyone have any photos of the Jim Richards XU-1 in race livery?

Ralph was a great guy! His exploits in all sorts from Simca 1000s upwards was an inspiration.

My Dad raced XU1's and strangely Richard Brocklehurst lived across the road in the same street. Also Graham Crawford, 2 doors down from Brocklehurst bought one of Dad's new XU1's that he didn't take delivery of, and he raced it also. All in the same Street of Manurewa!!

Yes you are right, unfortunately there may have been a misunderstanding. Not the first international event. But Manawatu car club.

Very few of those numbers match. If "Dad" had this listed as the first race at Manfield it would not be the Ralta International, more of a club event?

Mate closer inspection suggests its Leopard not Leonard as you may be able to see here

That would be the ex Homewood /McCallum orange torana when Graham Crawford owned it.I think he fitted the wider rims spotlights and triple delorto carbs and later flared the guards.
