Such a shame the old cine cameras didn't have sound recording in-sync. Would have loved to have heard that SNECMA firing the Cooper round Ardmore!

The former jet car Cooper is certainly alive and well and was competing in the Vintage Car Club Hill Climb in Auckland two weeks ago.

The jet car doesn't exist as such. It was long ago converted into a raceable MkV Cooper 500

That's the Cooper jet car, being demonstrated by Jim Meikle
If you're the TonyG I think you might be, you'll know where the car is now ;)

also, refering to Sergeants web page regarding the 1958 GP and other sources, the "toothpaste tube" B type XK Jaguar engined Connaught @1.23 is driven by Stuart Lewis - Evans.

pallmall's right (again)
Leslie Marr ran Connaught B3 with Jaguar engine in NZ in 1956. It then returned to the UK, had its streamliner body replaced by normal 'Syracuse'type', and the Alta engine put back in. In 1957 it was fitted with the unique toothpaste-tube bodywork, and was sold later in the year to a Mr Ecclestone, who sent it to NZ for Lewis-Evans to drive

The car returned to NZ later, in the ownership of Paul Leuch

I've just uploaded the 1955, 1961 and 1962 NZGPs at Ardmore. Enjoy, I will post the 1963, 1964 and 1965 NZGPs at Pukekohe in a separate thread.

I stand corrected PM...I was thinking it was the ex Marr car that came to NZ in 1956 with an XK engine..
I think David M will set the record straight..

Surely the Lewis Evans Connaught was not Jaguar powered in 1958, the Alta-Connaught engine would have been in the engine bay. The Leslie Marr car that came out here in 1956 certainly was, delibrately for reliability reasons. Both allegedly and probably chassis B3 with different bodies.
I don't own an annorack of any kind, not even a rain coat!

@1.53 in the 3rd Video is a #10 Ferrari Squalo. There were 2 entered, one for Arnold Glass and the other Tom Clark . If this is Tom Clarks car in the video, we are looking at the future 'Morrari"

Yes I am sure they do. Identifying the drivers and mechanics in the paddock is another issue, I was about 5 when the last Ardmore GP was held! Yes, the 1958 event shown was identified as a national event held in March of that year and duly amended. Any comments helping us identify anything are appreciated David, thanks.

Glad you enjoyed Ardmore by Clifford Irving. I am currently custodian of footage which the Bruce McLaren Trust found in it's archives. I posted them here on the Roaring Season with the purpose of identifying cars, drivers etc. Apart from a few comments on the thread http://www.theroaringseason.com/showthread.php?219-Ardmore-and-Pukekohe-NZIGP-Film-1955-64&highlight=ardmore
I haven't had much comment to help in the quest - I hope to put some kind of history of early NZGPs to DVD when I can assemble enough footage and information.

Incidentally, I still have some early Pukekohe NZIGPs from the Irving series to post but I held back due to the limited enthusiasm at the time of posting. The roaring season community has grown quite a bit since so may get something happening before long. Plenty more in the pipeline.
